Hi Gang,

I have a Tamiya XBG (TGS Chassis) Nitro Road car which I want to make
faster. As advised by someone on here, I got hold of the Tamiya "Tuned Gear
Set" but I have absolutely no idea where to start to install it?

If the kind person who recommended the gear set is still around, I would
certainly be grateful for some instructions on how to install it!

Thanks

MIKE

Hi mike !

I am the guy who recommanded you the tuned gear set  :o)

So, how to install the "tuned gear set" ? Well, first, you should have
in the kit :
- One 30T nylon spur gear
- One 18T and 32T counter gear
- One tube of silicone grease
- instruction manual !!!!!!!

First, open the rear part witch hide the gears (there's a sticker on
it, with a big red "danger : rotating part" written on it). In this
room, you will have to put the new gear (the 18T and 32T counter
gear). Be sure it can turn easily. If it can't, clean the axis and try
again.

Then, I can't remember which of the two following operations you have
to do. Maybe both... (sorry, I did it last month and I can't remember
the exact instruction. I think that the first operation is necessary)

1/ unscrew the rear "deck" (is it the right word ? sorry for my
english... I can explain it in french if you prefer. What I call
"deck" is the part which supports the whisbones) : 5 or 7 screws
(unscrew the 3 screws of the rear bumper, the 2 screws under the
chassis, and maybe 2 screws upside).
You don't need to open it (except if you want to examine the
differential gear - mine was damaged after a lost of control, it was
not turning "straight" and I had to change it). You will be able to
change the 30 T spur gear in the small "danger" room  :o)

  AND / OR

2/ open the upper part of the chassis (6 or 7 screws) to take off the
"cover" of the chassis. You should be able to see the receiver and the
propeller shaft. I'm not sure if it's really necessary to open this
cover, but I think you have to do it to "unlock" the rear bevel gear
by removing the propeller shaft... To do this, you may have to unscrew
the servo arm and the tank.

When it's done, use silicone grease (very few grease! the tube of
grease included in the kit could be used for 10 ou 15 times...) on the
spur gear, the counter gear and the bevel gear.

You need between 30 minutes and 1 hour to do it. Do it slowly, and
don't loose a screw or a little axis or something else.
The most important : follow the instruction manual !

Good luck and enjoy your faster tgs !

Laurent.

Thanks Lolo,

I got my new gear set installed and the top speed is much better. One thing
leads to another, and I'm now looking at handling .....

Thanks!

Mike
