Converting a 1/8 scale model car to RC car?

I can buy for cheap a pretty cool 1/8 scale plastic model sports car
that's already built. Would it be practical to convert it to an RC
car? I'm thinking of buying it and gutting the insides and putting it
on an RC car chassis. Can I get 1/8 size wheels and all the other
parts I need pretty easily?  I haven't had any RC cars before.
Has anybody else used a 1/8 scale model kit car to make an RC?

No. Models are too rigid and could not stand the impacts and flip overs that
rc cars are made to handle.

It will be no cheaper in the end and be very fragile compared to the real
thing. But it will look cool if done right.  A few of the local hobby guys
do stuff like that but really all they can salvage from a car is the body
and its good only for show. I have seen one self destruct when catching a
corner on something at high speed. Blew apart! I don't think a Lexan body
would have even noticed the same bump!

look at this project, 1/6 scale but same thing for a 1/8..   +++some
extra...

For display, it's a very good idea.. but running it without any crash, hum..
there's no warranty!

But if you want, you can take the 1/8 toy with complete interior and mount
it
on your custom chassis + buy a 1/8 lexan body to run your car without risk
for your realistic 1/8 toy body.
