railing for 1:18 track

I'm intersted in suggestions, ideas, or links for building a 1:18 track.

I've seen a local track using that black, ridges, plastic piping that you
see attached to the end of downspouts from gutters on homes.  They just cut
them in half, and dig the edges into the ground enough to hold them in
place.  It seemed to help keep cars that bruched against it to straighten
up, but it also would not prevent a car/truck from running over it if it had
much of an angle when hitting it.  That should help prevent a lot of
potential damage associated with running into a wall at speed.
