I helped a friend rebuild his corvair engine. IIRC, the block was dark
aluminum. (like American Mag wheels of the era) To duplicate the color,
you can mix a very small amount of black paint with some aluminum paint.

Or use one of the darker Testors Metalizers, like Magniesium or
Titanium.
