Hi, I was rummageing around through a storage box of kit boxes and found a
couple of Bf 109 kits, so I did some reading about the versions and became
confused.
Why, well this is why.....
Heller #229 not exactly a new kit and described on the box as a Bf 109 K-4,
though when I look in the box I have the impretion that it is a Bf 109 G-10
The second Bf 109 kit I have is by Revell #04107 which says its a Bf 109
G-10, though from the small amout of referance I have it looks as if it is a
Bf 109 K-4.
As I said I have limited references about the Bf 109, so I would apreaicate
any confermation about what each of these kits actualy represents.
Thanks in advance

Just a wild stab in the dark here. Is it possible that at some time or other
in the past the kits were replaced in the wrong box?

That was my interpretation of those two also.
I distinctly remember a review in Air International of the Heller kit
and that was Fred Henderson's opinion. The Revell kit didn't arrive on
the market whilst Mr. Henderson's column existed so whatever his opinion
on that one is unrecorded.
AFAIK, the Heller kit is now available through Airfix. Both kits are
fun builds as long as you remember their switched identities.

According to Modeling Madness:
The Heller kit
Early Boxing Kit # 074 was more of a G-14
Later Boxing Kit # 229 had changes made to correct it to a K
Didn't see anything directly on the Revell kit though if it
is the same as the ProMod the reviewer claimed :
"The model represents a Bf-109 G-10/B because it features a
short tail wheel. However, with a few changes to the tail
wheel, oil coolers, wing bulges and some rescribing, the
model can be converted into G-6AS, G-10/A, G-14AS and K-4
variants. "

Thanks for the replys guys, next step I suppose is to find some refference
to match up what the sugestions say they are as after looking at various
items on the Hannants web site I found an Almark decal set with a
downloadable pdf file that I have printed out which shows a G-6/U2, a G-14AS
and three K-4's so I am now none the wiser ans none of them match either kit
though the G-14AS looks like the Revell kit without bulges at the lower
forward end out the exhausts.
Perhaps if someone can point Me towards a good reference sorce, proferabily
on line?
Many thanks

I'm afraid I don't know any online sources but if you can check out a
copy of Squadron's 'Bf 109 in Action, Pt.2' it might help. I used that
as my main source along with any other print sources I happened to have.

Over in alt.binaries.multimedia.aviation, a guy by the name of Waldo
Pepper is posting pdf copies of the Squadron books and other similar ones.
Really fascinating stuff. If your news server has a long retention
period, then there's a treasure trove there for the picking.

I didn't see your original post, so I don't know exactly what you are
looking for, but I have downloaded Squadron's 'Bf 109 in Action, Pt.2' If
your isp provides alt.binaries.models.scale, I can upload it there for
you.

I have managed to find info about the kits I have from
http://modelingmadness.com only thing being that the Heller kit I have is a
hybred, the majority of the kit is the old version (G-14?) but has the wings
of the late G-10 or K version, consequently I have no idea what I can do
with this hybred other than pass it to a beginner who will not care about
its accuricy or consine it to the spares box.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Gondor:
The hard fact is that the many variations of the Messerschmitt Bf-109
is a very complex subject and one that really requires a lot of study.
If you plan on getting involved in this esoteric world I would recommend
acquiring a copy of:
"The Messerschmitt Bf-109F, G and K series" by Jochen Prien and Peter
Rodeike, Schiffer Pub., 1993, ISBN 0-88740-424-3. Have fun!
