The 1/32 scale Academy F/A-18C leading edge slats can be separated if the
wings are modeled as folded.  Has anyone separated the slats just to get a
better looking gap?  If so, how did it look?  It looks like the gap would be
around 1 scale inch but it may be possible to fudge it a little.

There shouldn't be ANY "gap" in the leading edge flaps in the lowered
position; at least not one which goes all the way through.  There are
gap seals on the bottom surface, and the movement of the actuators only
allows what would apprear as a deep "panel line" on the upper surface.
There are two good pictures in the D&S Part 2, Vol 45 on page 29, and a
good head-on shot of Hornet 1 with the LEF lowered on page 6 of D&S Part
1, Vol 6.

BTW - if you are folding the wings on a baby Hornet, the ailerons should
be faired and the leading edge flap lowered; which is not always the
case for a Super Hornet.  There is a very good picture of this on page
16 of D&S Part 2, Vol 45.  If you've been looking at the recent build of
the Academy 1/32 D kit on the IPMS website, the guy building that kit
got it wrong on his D - and not only did he get it wrong on his D, he
even shot a pic of his D sitting next to his C where he did it right!
