Saw this at tea time on TMF

Will Young poncing about then walking near an aircraft.

"That planes nose looks a little like a Buccaneer"

"That plane is quite a bit like a Buccaneer - I wonder what it is?"

Camera head on view

"Oh it IS a Bucanneer - Gloss black - must be Cape Jets"

Then what happened - his mate got into a Hunter!

Strangely enough we had a tv documentary about Cape Jets a month or two ago.

Still not as bad as some of these WWII DVDs.  The narrator was talking
about new aircraft available to the Luftwaffe such as "the He111, the
Do17 (screen showing lines of Ju88's) ...."

Sounds like The History Channel!

It was probably Channel Five on UK terrestrial and as part of a 'Top 10'
of best(?) Aircraft.

Yeh... 'cos a Hunter looks *just like* a Buccaneer...

Mind you, the RAF seemed to think so at one stage. When the Bucc fleet was
gounded in the early 80, due to cracked wing spars, the Bucc squadrons used
Hunters to keep their pilots qualified. The same courtesy was not extended
to the navs, who lost their flying pay while the fleet underwent
rectification.

If the telly company wanted a "pop star" to do a feature on aircraft, why
didn't they get someone who actually knows what they are talking about?
Gary Numan would fit the bill nicely!

Point is Enzo, its a video for a pop song, made to be a little like Top Gun,
though as Will said in an interview, it was not intended to be a copy of the
film, just a bit toung in cheek.

And I think I am right in saying that Cape Jets only has one Buccaneer so
they had to use a Hunter for the second aircraft , easier to keep these two
aircraft together than trying to manouver the Lightning they have with the
buc.

If you watch the video a bit further there are flying sequences with both
aircraft (the Hunter and the Bucc.), its a pop video its not meant to be a
historically accurate and is not aimed at aviation buffs, its just a tongue
in cheek (ooh err missus !!) homo-erotic tribute to Top Gun.

When you think about it and if you can divorce yourself away from the flying
sequences, some scenes in the original movie are very camp.

Its good to see the Thunder City jets in action.

Happy modelling

You mean that there is something other than flying sequences in Top Gun? I
thought they put all that fluff in there so you could go refill your
popcorn and not miss anything important.

There was another pop video like that. It was something by Fatboy Slim and
it featured a Hunter in USAF markings!
