crw59@earthlink.net - 13 Dec 2005 15:17 GMT so did we all spend more on ourselves instead of our SO and or family?
I was good this December only ordering the 1/32 A-7 Corsair and the 1/72 Gato.
I may go off the wagon though as I brought my Squadron flyer to work today.

The Collector - 13 Dec 2005 16:08 GMT I spent a little money and got a lot for myself.
A local hobby shop was closing due to the owner retiring. Every week, the discount got bigger and by the time of the final few days, the discount was up to 80% off(!). At first I soley concentrated on filling in the gaps in my Squadron/Signal "In Action" series book collection. Since the discount on books was high to start with, this was a good plan. By the time I got all the "In Action" books I needed, the kit discount was up to 50% off. The first day of the 80% off sale was the Friday after Thanksgiving. I had made a little list of things I wanted to look for but was pretty sure that all these items would be gone by the time I got there. I arrived at the store shortly after it opened and I found that all of the things on my list were still there! I picked up Tamiya's Swordfish, MiG-15, and F-84G, Academy's C-97 and KB-29, and a few other kits for 80% off! The store was also selling all of it's fixtures so I also picked up a PollyScale paint rack.
It's sad to see a hobby shop close, but it's good to be able to get large discounts on items you can't find at Hobby Lobby.

rwsmithjr@rcn.com - 13 Dec 2005 16:56 GMT Nothing yet.......most likely won't be a single model either, more likely a Canon 20D DSLR.

Bill Woodier - 13 Dec 2005 23:28 GMT Zero, so far. I spent most my money on my wife, kids, and grandkids. Buying stuff for them is what makes me feel best. I think my wife may have bought me an l/e print of E/502 "Silencing the Guns." If so, that should be more than enough for me.

Jules Not believing in another's religion is a matter of personal selection, and I admire that. Not believing in another's religion is a matter of personal selection, but to call another's believes BS is not only disrespectful, it shows that you have no culture, it shows that you have no values, your life is nothing more than existing to eat, sleep and repeat the cycle.
I am really sorry that you feel that way - wait a minute, I changed my mind, I am not sorry that you feel that way. You sound as if you are desperate, as if there is nothing in life worth living for - I am glad you feel like that - you sound as if you had a big hole in you life - I am glad because you don't deserve anything better. You sound like a loser, and more than likely, you are the biggest loser of all times.
If you do not believe, keep your f.cking thoughts to yourself. But don't say that religion is Bull sh.t.
Cheers and have a Merry Christmas,

And no i dont hate or judge other peoples religeons, my clostest friends are Jews and muslims. Only reason i didnt blow my brains out the other week is i have no one to take care of my dog. i was christened so i can slag off that religeon all i want, you know i have have close friends who goto church, they know how i feel but know me as a person and respect my feeling like i respect theres.
Next time i goto Austin let me give you a call.........................i will show you how bitter, twisted and nasty this limey can be

Being glad that somebody is suffering is not a very Christian way to behave.
I hope both of you enjoy this time of year in your own ways.
Bill Woodier - 13 Dec 2005 23:57 GMT Christmas may be a load of BS to you, Jules but it's not to me and a lot of others. I believe Atheism is a load of crap; a dodge for the lonely, unhappy, selfish and self-centered but that's just my opinion. That said, keep Christmas in your own way (or leave it alone if you wish), but allow me to keep Christmas in my way. I hope you have a good trip and are able to find some happiness.

Well, you could go Pre-Christian and do exactly what you're doing anyway by re-introducing the true message, getting together with people you might not have seen maybe all year and having a great time with lots to eat and drink. This is what was done pre-Roman times when there were no shops/stores - well there were stores as that was vegetables stored in pits with sand and soil thrown over the top to keep them from rotting too quickly. The time was a breather as you then knew that spring was getting closer and it was a time to also reflect on those who were not around any more.
The Romans, with their candidate who was born around late Spring/Early Summer are not even to blame for the way it is now! It's Capitilism and not the nice version with lots of benefactors giving large chunks of money to hospitals, schools and kids in workhouses making our plastic kits for a bowl of rice a year! ;-)
Fight back and have that true meaning of Christmas. Get drunk, get laid and lose your memory for a while.

maiesm72@netscape.com - 14 Dec 2005 07:45 GMT Great IPMS Santa Rosa party. Got some nice Hasegawa and Academy kits, Justin got a DVD, Lynne did some short interviews for ESM 72. Lots of pizza, sodas and beer with great conversation.
Only thing odd was the movie playing in the background, an old one about types and testing of atomic devces.
Have an Atomic Christmas?
Tom

I've cooked up the dinners around this time, in fact I cook all the time now, so it'll be chicken and pheasant at least, with all the trimmings and a few pies with pears and apples from our small orchard.
So as not to confuse it with Christmas, I'm saving up my money to buy a whole load of stuff from, I think it's called, Model Miniatures down the road from Clapham Junction, South London. It's like a junk shop of kits with some of the old stuff like the Spad and SE5a in those polythene bags to the really large stuff. The owner even showed us a really old model kit made out of Bakelite!
It'll be in the middle of January when all the customers have stopped acting like London is one great big <sp?> mosh pit!

maiesm72@netscape.com - 15 Dec 2005 04:35 GMT This year the first night of Channukah is December 25.
That means the after Christmas sales are fair game. I'll be watching the ads for Hobby Lobby and the like.
One neat thing that have been doing every year is adding the Hallmark airplane ornaments to the tree. These are small (HO?) airplane ornaments with excellent detail and great subject matter. This year it's a 1931 Laird Super Solution, green with yellow wings and other trim. This #9 in the seres.

It makes me wish I didn't break up my (?)Matchbox Me109 made in conjunction with the Battle of Britain film. I find the lower part of it still, when I dig in the back garden.

maiesm72@netscape.com - 13 Dec 2005 18:40 GMT Well, about $125 so far this month at Berkeley Ace Hardware's hobby shop.
Gifts for Christmas and Channukah are hard to tell as we buy and put away all year, but probably $750 or so. We are Disney fanatics, so purchases on the experimental West Coast cruise and two trips to Disneyland were pretty much our gifts to each other for the year. What we do exchange for the holidays are usually thngs for the home.
First night of Channukah is Christmas, so we save a day. Justin, of course, gets stuff from us and other family every day, mostly DVDs and CDs. He'll be in bed from 12/23 through 12/30 for post surgical recovery, lengthening Achilles tendons.
Best wishes to all,
Tom

But I also am giving myself The complete series of Night Stalker on DVD. Of course I know that others are giving me some models and DVDs too but that's another tale. Merry CHRISTmas!

maiesm72@netscape.com - 13 Dec 2005 22:27 GMT Thanks.
The surgery on the right leg went really well. Little to no pain, a week in bed, month and a half with limited movement in a cast, two weeks in a walking cast, lots of PT after that.
Left leg: Repeat above.
The stack of unopened DVDs grows in preparation. Since I have to be within arms reach the first week there are several flicks that we'll share. The Aviator, High & the Mighty, No Island in the Sky top the list.
In the mean time he is doing a lot of parties (IPMS Santa Rosa tonight), movies and events.
Thanks for the best wishes.
Tom

Mad-Modeller - 14 Dec 2005 05:53 GMT So far about $10 for one of those Minicraft Rolls-Royces from Squadron. I have an original Hubley and I wanted to see what has been done to the kit in 45 years. They changed the 'glass' and the tires aren't whitewalls anymore but everything else seems the same.
