Blew away my 1970's model collection with one...thought it might be fun
to have one around again for basic target practice and to put down
various hopeless models.

Crosman v. Daisy - comments?

CO2 v. pump action?  (seems like CO2 would have less moving parts, but
would cost more with the added expense of buying cartridges).

Guesstimate as to how many BB's can be fired per cartridge?

thx much - Craig

The last one I bought was/is a Crosman pump.

The pump can really 'reach out and touch someone'.  Mine still works
great after 20+ years...

Hey, if you have to ask, you're not even in the ballpark!  Hehehe...

I like my cheap $20 chinese knock off of the RWS series of pellet rifles.

LOL,

I've seen those before.  They're made in Italy, because they're marked
"Fragile" on the crate.

Happy New Year!

Her dad loved it and her mother was horrified and yes there is
apparently some argument as to whether or not it goes in the front
window...LOL

Happy New Year!

Crossman - pump.  Definately.  Adds the ability to send multiple BBs
down range with one trigger pull and the right amount of pumps...yeah.

That's how I remember it...

I've had several through the years. CO2 is problematic, you're always
running out at an inopportune time. Crossman always held up better and
was more accurate than the Daisy's. Make sure to film your destruction,
I wish I had tape of the models that I destroyed. Actually, I wish I
still had all the models I shot, burned, or blew up regardless of their
quality.
Cheers,

There are CO2 models that have plug in recharagable cylinders.  All you
then need to do is to invest in a feeder tank that looks like a divers
bottle to refill it from.  With the rechargable cylinders you can at
least take them out to stop the slow leakage.

It depends what you want to do.

Blast it to bits? CO2 or modern (e.g. 1000 fps) pump air rifles like
RWS will work fine.

But if you want to take your time, the old, low-power low-tech Daisy
"Red Ryder" (.e.g. Old Blue) still works great for popping bits off a
model.

We had some "trials" out in Kansas with a friend of mine and most of
his arsenal.

.22 Magnum -- leaves small round holes in both sides of a tank.

.357 Magnum -- leaves large round holes in both sides of a tank.

.45-70 -- leaves jagged holes, but blows the model back a good 15-20
feet.

12 Gauge with dove shot -- WHAT model???

Look guys the only way to absolutely be sure is explosives.

I took a BB gun to a Herbie the Love Bug model in the 70s but
only wounded it and it turned on me. I switched to large quantities
of Black Cat firecrackers and never had it happen again.

I'd think all the pumping you'd be doing right now involves bailing
water. ;)

Brought back long lost memories of summer days spent firing away at some
dime store models hung by string from the TV antenna guy wires with my
trusty old Daisy Red Ryder BB gun - then blowing up the remnants with
ladyfinger firecrackers.

Thanks...  (must have been the summer of '56)

Further OT - has anybody seen the motivational film about learning to shoot
tossed aspirin tablets with a BB gun?  Have you tried it?

First off use pellets not BB's. BB's are made of steel and when they hit
something solid, Like when you miss and hit the steel garbage can behind
the model they ricochet....and yes they can put your eye out. Lead
pellets are far less likely to ricochet.

Second wear safety glasses, Polycarbonate lenses, marked z87.

Third, co2 will work but it's max velocity with the Crosman powerlets is
between 350 to 400 feet per second velocity.
You will get about 50 shots per powerlet. (The last 20 will drop in
velocity, accuracy will suffer and so will penetration) If you shoot
fast the powerlet will ice up and velocity will drop.

Pump or spring piston are the way to go.
The guns that take the large air bottles or can be pumped with a bicycle
pump or compressor are way expensive. Definitely too expensive for
destroying the occasional evil model.

Daisy makes toys don't bother. The Crosman pump rifles and pistols are
ok Not great but Ok. If I was going to buy a Crosman I would go with the
1377c pump pistol. It will give you about 600 fps velocity. And you can
get a plastic shoulder stock that replaces the grips to make it more
stable and accurate.

Avoid the crosman co2 pistols like they have anthrax rubbed on them.
They are over priced diecast zinc junk.

If you are interested in a quality co2 repeater pistol look for Gamo.
They are priced in the $50 range. Their spring piston rifles are top
notch too and they are reasonably priced. They have a few in the $80
range. RWS and Beeman are the Kings of high quality spring piston guns.
They start around $150 and go up.

Avoid the chi-com spring piston guns. Many will shoot 30 or 40 shots and
crap out and stop cocking. The accuracy is hit or miss also. I really
wouldn't trust the safety on these guns either. The problem is they
aren't "all" bad. Some are excellent some are poor, the problem is you
can have that range of quality from the same manufacturer in the same
model. They have no consistent quality control. You really have no idea
what you will get. Chinese labor aside, If you can import and sell a
spring piston air gun for $35,  The price to manufacturer it is in the
range of $6 how well can it be made?  Remember, It's your health and
safety we are talking about here!

If you really want to see massive devastation when you shoot your models
get a cheap paintball gun and freeze the paintballs! The accuracy is
poor because you have a smooth bore barrel but they will smash the hell
out of your model!
I saw a cheap paintball gun at sports authority for $25. It uses co2
powerlets and you have to cock it every shot.

Sears had an entire collection of scenes from Christmas Story done in
resin. Pretty nice models.

When I saw it they had only the kid and the flagpole in damaged
condtion. It looked like there had been a half dozen tems.

Check the Sears website, it may be there.

BTW, I still have my Crosman AIR-17. Takes .177 pellets or BBs.Looks
like a M16 and it's pre-PC so no orange barrel tip, etc. One pump for
the cats when they go after the doves. Stings and the pop adds to the
effect. Four pumps would be lethal. Five round clip for the .177
pellets, storage for four clips in the removable large "clip". Shoulder
rest has a hinged back that allows for more storage. Highly recommended
if you can find one.
