Has anyone built any of the Eduard World War I Strip-down kits such as the
Fokker Dr. I and Dr. VIII?  Your input as far as complexity to build, etc.?
Thanks, Jim

I started the DR.I for demonstration purposes at a Museum of Flight
display a couple years ago. It's really nice etch, and it's designed
very well. I understand that on their earlier (what was that a Piper
cub) strip down, you had separate wing ribs that had to be put in place.
On the DR.I, you don't have separate ribs; they're attached at one
point, so that you bend and twist it into position before hitting it
with a little CA glue. Very easy to do

The fuselage went together easily also, and the interior detail is quite
good.

I didn't complete this model since I was not that interested in the
strip-down subject. I just wanted to demonstrate photo etch to the
public and wanted something I could work continuously on for hours at a
time. So I had the half-built project kicking around for a year or so
before I threw it away.

I'll face the music. My philosophy is that if it ain't fun, why bother.
The demonstration was just that, and served its purpose. That being
done, I had fun stuff to do.

The DR.I is well engineered and the end product is kinda cool, albeit
weird.

Hey, I saw someone build their Piper Cub or Grasshopper (whatever it
was) half in rib only, and half skinned. It was kinda cool like that.

I'm a novice when it comes to these etched Eduard kits although I have
always wanted to try one.  Can you give me a brief synapsis on what is
involved in building one?  Thanks, Jim in San Diego
