Don Stauffer - 17 Mar 2006 15:26 GMT Boy, this group has sure been shrinking! Today I only found 21 new messages. I can remember when the daily message count was 150-200. It can't be everyone is out doing summer-like things.
William H. Shuey - 17 Mar 2006 19:17 GMT FWIW I suspect many got turned off by all the political garbage last year and went over to Hyperscale or some other place. Just a hunch!

Rufus - 17 Mar 2006 21:08 GMT Personally, I'm not that hyped on Hyperscale. I sort of enjoy our rants here.

JDorsett - 17 Mar 2006 23:45 GMT I find this is the easiest forum to check through, easy to ignore what you are not interested in and also to hit on the ones you are, it's also multi subject all in the one stream which I think is a bonus , when it comes to products etc it can relate to a Ship, Auto, Aircraft etc, In other groups where it is segregated you miss a lot of the tips, I agree the politics could have turned a few off but some of the threads are good for a laugh also. It could also be said that when the group is a bit smaller it works somewhat better, at this point in time it looks pretty good to me, just my thoughts regards JimboD

I still read the newsgroup, but rarely post.

maiesm72@netscape.com - 22 Mar 2006 18:25 GMT I'm averaging a RMS visit every other day since I started actually building a model.
The G-29 (G-11) turned out not to be the out of the box effort that I planned, but I'm still plodding on with it.
The kit includes a floor, pilot's seat, benches, control stick and rudder pedals. I added side wall structure detail and pull handles on the floor for flaps and tow release. The canopy was a no-go as far as fit, so I filed and sanded the back and bottom flat and built a suitable frame for it on the cockpit opening. I found an ancient but useable bottle of Pactra Mustard that, with a good deal of white, was a perfect match for the interior. Highlighted the framework with out of the bottle Mustard.
With the fuselage together it was now time to get out the heavy files and heavy grit sandpaper to make the two halves match as the right side bottom was obviouslt lower than the left. File, sand, putty, repeat until it looks right.
The fuselage problem also meant removing the horizontal stabilizers (measure twice, cut once!!!) and re-mounting them with a metal spar. Shall also use a metal spar for the really long wings.
So, back to the project.

Probably - it's 78 degrees here with the weekend thru Tuesday forecasted to be in the 40s and/or rainy. I'm getting some yard stuff done while the getting is good.
As for the supposed dwindling posts - it might be a little slow but that's not always a bad thing.

Stephen Tontoni - 18 Mar 2006 00:05 GMT I notice the same topics over and over again, so it gets boring. I don't post very much these days for that reason.
Cookie's reviews are gems though. Worth hanging around just for those!

Worth hanging around just for those! > > --- Tontoni They appear on Hyper Scale: http://www.hyperscale.com/what's.htm I got turned off by the stream of nonsense that a few folks post (pediphile and anti-IPMS junk). Just not worth it. I spend my time at Armorama.com, breeze through ML and post occasionally at FSM's website.
maiesm72@netscape.com - 24 Mar 2006 01:51 GMT The pedophile crap and the pitiful anti-IPMS stuff are both generated by individual losers. Takes less than a second to pass them up, even less if they are kill-filed.
I think that some of the decrease in posts is due to the weather and the larger amount of modeling that gets done during the winter. I just got the wings on the G-29 (G-11) project, adding a wing spar just in case. Also finished caging the cockpit to accept the canopy. I'm very pleased with the fit now. I have to pick up some decent putty at Berkeley Ace Hardware. The old Pactra body filler stuff is just too soft and mushy and my good stuff went and hardened on me in the tube. They just don't make them like they used to. That tube was only about twenty-five years old !

Mad-Modeller - 24 Mar 2006 03:08 GMT Yeah, 25 years just seems too new to go bad. Maybe you should complain to the manufacturer. ;)

Dennis - 24 Mar 2006 11:11 GMT > Yeah, 25 years just seems too new to go bad. Maybe you should complain > to the manufacturer. ;) > > Bill Banaszak, MFE Sr. I did that once about a Tenson sweater I had for 15 years. after that time the cuffs started to wear and have holes in them.
I wrote to Tenson and wanted to tell them in a humorous way that I was very impressed with the quality of the sweater. So I told them that I had this sweater and after ONLY 15 years the cuffs were getting holes in them!
They send me back a letter, thanking me for that I was/am very content with their sweater AND send me a new sweater!!
Good guys!
maiesm72@netscape.com - 25 Mar 2006 01:02 GMT G-29 (G-11) progress:Got the reshaped horizontal stabilizers with metal spar added in place last night along with the very tiny scallop at the base of the vertical fin. Still working on the shape of the stabs. They are straight in the kit where they should be swept back slightly. Also still working on the shape behind the cockpit canopy now that the canopy fits properly.
Hope nobody minds the build updates. It is on topic, but is it too boring?

To bring it on topic, I intend to model original tardis. The interior of the new one is highly modified. Liked the old one better.
maiesm72@netscape.com - 25 Mar 2006 22:57 GMT Cut off the ailerons on the G-29 (G-11) last night. Should have done that before attaching to the fuselage, but what the hey. When I thinned out the trailing edges of the wing I forgot to take the split flaps into consideration, so that's tonight's plan.
Tom
maiesm72@netscape.com - 28 Mar 2006 00:43 GMT Removed the flaps (should have done this before attaching the wings, too) added interior detail last night. I'll do the flaps tonight. Also picked up some good putty yesterday so that now I can fix the dents in the wings where the overscale strengthening bands were. Also reshaped the horizonal stabilizers which were presented as straight leading edges when they wer actually quite swept back.
On a nother modeling note: went to a collecter's toy and Disneyana show in Hayward yesterday. Aside from several Disney items I picked up a Renwal Martin Mars for $1. Now I need three props and both underwing floats with struts and a way to remove the brittle glue used. A box would be nice, too. :-) I also have the Renwal B-17 which needs a prop and a wheel to be complete. These were the first plastic kits produced in the U.S. and were also available in gift sets.

Mad-Modeller - 28 Mar 2006 07:47 GMT Tom, I hope you can post pics over on abms. I've never seen either of those nor heard of their existence until today.

maiesm72@netscape.com - 29 Mar 2006 02:48 GMT Sorry, Bill, no capacity for transfering photos at this point. Hell, I'm using a borrowed computer!
Both models are pretty much toys with pretty accurate shapes. Wheels on the B-17 are huge, wheels for the Mars are strictly for rolling around and going "Brrrmmm".
The Mars is in a somewhat metalic green, the B-17 in OD with swirls of reds and other colors throughout. All windscreens, windows are simply open frame. Turrets are solid.
If I find someone that can photograph them for the internet I'll post the site here.

The Old Man - 28 Mar 2006 13:08 GMT Tom - If you're still looking for Disney models, there's a Disney stagecoach on eBay that was still pretty cheap last time I looked (last night).
maiesm72@netscape.com - 29 Mar 2006 02:53 GMT Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out tonight and see if I can afford it and if the seller can take a check.
I know, stone age, but I have too many other things to do and can't be bothered with Pay Pal and the like. I have only made one purchase on e-bay and I was very pleased with the results.
I'll let you know what comes of it.
Thanks again,
Tom
CB - 18 Mar 2006 04:31 GMT I was thinking the same thing. I have read this group every day since late '97. Back in the day there were 300+ posts, Az accounted for about 30% of the origin of those. I have never been a fan of hyperscale, but I do frequent some of the different yahoo groups.

It > can't be everyone is out doing summer-like things. eyeball - 18 Mar 2006 05:44 GMT This being a regularly asked question,I'd say the group just has its own rythm. It's been unseasonably warm here in MD,so my neighbors in here are probably outside. As to me it's been too warm in this room most days, and due to an incredibly stubborn squirrel!!! I have to put in a new air conditioner...
Brian Burr Chin - 18 Mar 2006 09:48 GMT Yes, I have noticed the same thing: fewer messages. Often I find no messages that interest me, so I don't open them. Probably the repetitive modeling subjects offered today don't help the situation. There's not a lot to talk about.
maiesm72@netscape.com - 18 Mar 2006 22:37 GMT I havn't posted much recently due to a computer problem (having to use Lynne's until I get my internet problem fixed) coupled with ESM 72 deadlines and actually building a model all the way through.
BTW, AZ was a minor player way back when. The big problem maker then was Louise (IIRC that was his/her name) and the 1/72 scale injection molded Lockheed C-5 in the hobby shop located in the middle of the river back in the 1970s. That went on for months and months getting funnier and funnier.
AZ is just a pitiful wannabe compared to our then-resident transexual hair removal expert.

Bill Woodier - 20 Mar 2006 23:46 GMT Still here, mostly lurking at the moment. I've been busy getting things sorted out getting ready for my retirement, and making the endless number of required appointments, etc and haven't had a lot of spare time. Also, I just haven't found all that much upon which I've felt a burning desire to post on lately
