how to paint the waterline for the pt boats, swift boats, etc with the
curved bow. I know there is some trick to masking to get a straight
line against the curve, but this feeble mind can't
figure it out...
thx - Craig

Put a bunch of masking tape on the bow roughly where the waterline will
go. Draw the waterline onto the tape then carefully peel it off. Trim the
tape along the line you just drew, re-apply and paint your little heart
out : ).

A very easy way is to get the Sears laser line. About 39.95
Very uesful for construction, shelves ect ect.
Awesome when it comes to boot line on boats simply
shine the laser on the side of the boat and voila
you have a perfectly straight line. From there you just
mark the line with tape or a marker. Hope this helps
cheers

Place your boat level (on its stand) on your desk.
Mark the place where the waterline has to be drawn.
Sharpen a pencil or use a 0,5 mm technical pencil.
Put some things under the pencil (matchbox, eraser, small boxes, wooden
blocks etc.)
Now make sure the tip of the pencil is on the same level as the where you
marked your waterline.
Hold the boat steady and level and gently go around your hull with the
blocks under the pencil flat on the table top.
You can mark the waterline directly on the hull and then mask it or first
mask it, draw the line on the masking and then cut it with a sharp knive.
I like the first option.
