Hi,

I am starting a new project and I would like to paint my model car with
the Maryland State Police colors
(http://members.fortunecity.com/coxfan/mdsp165.jpg)

Looking at the website above, what color would you say I should use
besides the black?  It looks like Tamiya Dark Yellow bears a strong
resemblence, but I would like some input regardless.

Thank you!

Model Car World can probably provide an exact match.  Scroll down
to "STATE HIGHWAY PATROL & FLEET COLORS" for further info:

Would one of the Tamiya OD sprays be a good match for the OP to
use?  TS5 or TS28, maybe?

No, Tamiya isn't even close, the Testors flat is the correct one, I
posted a link a little while ago. He'll just have to buff it down a
little with micromesh and gloss coat it. These cars are one time Future
wouldn't be too glossy.

You sure?  The photo makes it look like a gold colour which is what I
would have suggested.

Look at this color from Tamiya...
http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/tam/tam85003.htm

This one is pretty close. It may not be as dark as on the photo, but
it's close. What do you think?
I could make it darker with a black primer maybe?

It's always tricky at best to judge colors on a computer monitor.
That's one of the reasons I suggested you contact Model Car World if
you're interested in accuracy.

Al,

That website is a great resource. The only thing is that the police car
paints seem to come in A.E. which I believe requires an airbrush. I
don't have one yet; it's on my list though!

Thanks again.

You could always order one of the Preval spray units from MCW
along with the paint, or pick one up at your local home improvements
store.  Another option is the cheap Badger spray gun sold at Wal-Mart
which is perfectly adequate for most model car paint jobs.

Just get a can of spray paint in the color that is closest and then
spray it on an MD State Police car and see if it matches. The State
Police won't mind. :-)

exactly the right color.

Yes, glossy O.D. Trust me, I know. Would you also like to know what

Does the MD State Police still have that "Sting Patrol"? I believe the
cars were painted as they are now, but there was no light bar on the
roof, and there was a Bee emblem on the doors.

FWIW  I saw two screaming up route 140 Wednesday, first was standard
patrol car in black/Olive Drab, second was a completely incognito black
sedan. Only give away on the black sedan was a siren and a blinking red
light on the dashboard.

Um, yellow?

I live in MD, they are gloss black and gloss olive drab, that photo is
deceptively light. Just use the FS OD and put a gloss coat over it and
you'll be spot on.

Who makes a late model 1/25 Crown Victoria model (if that is what you
are modeling)? I have been checking and can't find one.

Bill,

I am using the Welly car model. The scale is advertised as 1/24 but it
is more like 1/25 - 1/26. Most 1/24 decals work, however.

Try this website - http://www.policecarmodels.com

Take care!

OK, Thanks. It is already built then. I was looking for a plastic model
kit just to have more hands-on.
This might do, though.

Lindberg made a '97 Crown Vic that's a rather sophisticated snapper.
It has been OOP for several years while Lindberg specialises in hopping
cars.  I don't know what will hgappen to the plastic moulds now that
Lindberg has been sold to some company I never heard of.
