thirdwatch2@gmail.com - 04 May 2006 01:19 GMT Hi,
I am starting a new project and I would like to paint my model car with the Maryland State Police colors (http://members.fortunecity.com/coxfan/mdsp165.jpg)
Looking at the website above, what color would you say I should use besides the black? It looks like Tamiya Dark Yellow bears a strong resemblence, but I would like some input regardless.
Thank you!

Scroll down to "STATE HIGHWAY PATROL & FLEET COLORS" for further info:

Would one of the Tamiya OD sprays be a good match for the OP to use? TS5 or TS28, maybe?

Ron Smith - 04 May 2006 06:31 GMT No, Tamiya isn't even close, the Testors flat is the correct one, I posted a link a little while ago. He'll just have to buff it down a little with micromesh and gloss coat it. These cars are one time Future wouldn't be too glossy.

Thanks again!

This one is pretty close. It may not be as dark as on the photo, but it's close. What do you think? I could make it darker with a black primer maybe?

That's one of the reasons I suggested you contact Model Car World if you're interested in accuracy.

Car Shopping - 04 May 2006 06:04 GMT Al,
That website is a great resource. The only thing is that the police car paints seem to come in A.E. which I believe requires an airbrush. I don't have one yet; it's on my list though!
Thanks again.

You could always order one of the Preval spray units from MCW along with the paint, or pick one up at your local home improvements store. Another option is the cheap Badger spray gun sold at Wal-Mart which is perfectly adequate for most model car paint jobs.

The State Police won't mind. :-)

Only give away on the black sedan was a siren and a blinking red light on the dashboard.

Ron Smith - 04 May 2006 05:59 GMT I live in MD, they are gloss black and gloss olive drab, that photo is deceptively light. Just use the FS OD and put a gloss coat over it and you'll be spot on.

Car Shopping - 04 May 2006 14:55 GMT Bill,
I am using the Welly car model. The scale is advertised as 1/24 but it is more like 1/25 - 1/26. Most 1/24 decals work, however.

It has been OOP for several years while Lindberg specialises in hopping cars. I don't know what will hgappen to the plastic moulds now that Lindberg has been sold to some company I never heard of.
