Can anybody suggest what would be a good material for making antenna
wire rigging on a 1./18 (or is it 1/16?) Me-109?
Thanks,
Bill K.

That big a scale you could probably use clothesline!! :-)

Gee, thanks for the tip :-)
I was wondering if thin wire would be better than thread. This is my
only model airplane, so I don't know the cool tricks of the trade. I
haven't built one in over 40 years, so any suggestions would be
appreciated.
Thanks, again,
Bill K.

Well, first you would have to know the diameter of the wire on an ME
109, then divide by 1/16 or 1/18.

In the Dollar Stores crafts section are thread size spools of fine
wire in gold, steel and bronze.

Bill,
Notwithstanding the advice you have been given, grab yourself an old
extension cord and unravel the copper strand wire inside the plastic
insulator, that one lonely wire you unraveled will be about as thick as
you want to go. There, your antennae wire.

At this scale I would use very fine copper wire, say #32 or so. It IS
getting a bit hard to find. Maybe radio shack might still carry it.
You want magnet wire, insulated only with a coating of Formvar or other
varnish, not a cloth or plastic insulation.
I got a big supply by scrapping an old TV and unwinding coils and
transformers from that. I did this about five or six years ago and
still have a good supply.
Craft stores like Michael's carry fine wire, but it is too shiny- maybe
dull down the gold with a brown magic marker (sharp point type).

good luck with rs. they seem to be rapidly discarding their
hobbysist background. most of it is already gone. try to
find anything to repair, build or expiriment with. they seem
limited to crappy low-end soldering irons. not all carry
solder!
my 30 year dislike continues....
