My post on the thread about "home made decals: laser or ink jet" is so
far back some of you may not see it. I would really like for you to read
it and also my post on the binary page.
In particular I would like you to read about #2. This is the one where
you create an image on the DecalPro paper, by laser print, marker, or
paint, and then create the decal film on top of your image.
I mentioned Future and Minwax's Polycrylic as ways to create the film
and right now I have a test going that uses Microscale's "Liquid Decal
Film". First coat is about dry and I am going to give it another coat
and when it's dry, see if the film soaks off OK. You know, I really
think the stuff is Future or something very like it. I want to see if it
is stronger than Future.
Im hoping someone here will pick up on all this, buy the paper and do
some experimenting. If you do I hope you will be in contact with me so
we can compare notes.
As for #1, the mylar film, I will get a laser print as soon as I can and
see how well the Mylar picks up the ink. 2u is super thin, so maybe a
good decal can be made this way.
Next up, I want to see if there is a way to cheaply duplicate the foil
that DecalPro offers so that black laser prints can be turned into white.

For those who are interested, Microscale's Liquid Decal Film is much
better than Future for making decals on the DecalPro paper. It makes a
really strong and easily handible decal. I used 3 coats, but will do
some more tests to find the minimum amount to make a good decal.
You can ask the obvious question, how is this an advantage over printing
regular decals and the answer is it isn't. But, keep in mind the
ultimate goal.
If we can find a source for buying the white foil only, or is there a
way to make our own?, we wouldn't have to buy their entire package of
foils and if we can find the right pressure and temperature for using an
iron we would have two ways to make white decals cheaply;
1 - Print black on DecalPro paper
Transfer the white foil over the black printing
Use Microscale's liquid to make a decal
2 - Use mylar and glue [Sulky2000 is a temporary basting glue for sewers
and should be found in any sewing shop] and follow the directions on the
video.
You know, it's a lot of fun fooling around with this stuff.
