took two weeks off to end the year with huge plans of completing most,
if not all of my partial kits...painting is another issue... figured
it would rain and I would be housebound, etc... well it stayed in the
50-60's the past two weeks with no rain so guess what...

Managed to finish just one kit, an old Italeri Hetzer that was started
probably 5 or so years ago.  Painting will probably take another 5
years.

What I found is that it took just two hours to finish the kit.  now
why did I not have two hours somewhere over the past 5 years?

probably bought 25 or so kits over 2007 so I am in the hole 19 kits
more than 2006.  So more clutter for the garage. Need reading glasses
to read and build now so that will slow things down a bit, especially
with the Revell Germany instructions that appear to be printed on thin
newspaper.

On the subject of clutter and why its hard for some to unload
things.... I've always wondered why we can easily drop $20-50 while
eating out or going to movie, but when we buy something for the same
amount, it is difficult to toss it away, as though a physical object
has more value than a night out.. I see lots of partial models that
will not get built, the small parts lost in some baggie somewhere, we
try and get extra money back for a kit sold on ebay, etc.
Do we keep things because we do not want to accept the fact that we
are not gonna be able to get it done like we thought we would? We
don't want to accept defeat?

I have a garage filled with physical things that really bring no
pleasure, but are so damned hard to get rid of....

Now how to handle this quandry in 2008 is my resolution.....

I had 11 days off ........ all in a row.  That is very unusual for
me.  I actually finished 4 projects I had going so my total finished
kits for the year now totals 13.  I have nothing underway right now.
That big Lindberg stagecoach awaits.  For the next couple of weeks, I
will be going through some of the things that are built and in need of
repair or disposal.  I have always found it harder to get rid of a
finished kit than a partial one.

My modeling "resolution" for this year is to get through this "clean
out", make a decision on the 2 or 3 unfinished kits that have been
sitting in the corner too long.  They either get finished or trashed.
I will also not buy another kit unless I finish one.  If I get the
urge to buy, it will be supplies, tools, or after market stuff for the
kits I already have.  Lofty goals for sure(:>

I came across a good term for this stuff -- Aspirational Clutter. It
represents what we want to do and getting rid of it requires one to
reevaluate one's goals; presumably with a healthy dose of realism.

I'ver realized that there are a lot of things I want to do, but will
probably never get the time.  Good thing we have ebay.

Cheers,
Dave Ambrose

I've had a good dose of realism over the past couple of years and
most of the collection has been passed on to others.  Of course, should
I win a lottery, I'd no doubt start accreting more stuff again but my
reality would have undergone a change.
It is good that we have E-bay as long as it is used properly but as
Craig said, we can buy from there too.  I've done a little of that but
only so far as my limited means allow.  OTOH, if you have kits that no
one seems to want, E-bay isn't doing you much good.

That the 1/35 scale one? That's the first 1/35th scale armored vehicle
the ever issued, IIRC.
Aren't the strange dehydrated mummified faces on the crew interesting?
They got better with time.

lost the figures over time, but the box art appears to show one figure
leaning over, probably tossing his cookies....lots of good pics of the
kit on the back of the box though...

It was funny that no other manufacturer beat Italeri to issuing a kit of
it. It was always on armor modelers "most wanted" list, with Scale
Modeler magazine once doing a article on scratchbuilding one.

You've inspired me to resolve to finish a model a month (that's
one in each month, no stocking up credit).  As you say, probably
have to just set aside a few hours "crunch time" around the 28th.
If there's nothing ready, or I have a failure of confidence, I
can always buy an Airfix and slam it.
