Stumbled on this:
http://www.philsaeronauticalstuff.com/oldmodels/oldmodels.html
Which has a section devoted to early plastic aircraft models as they
evolved from wooden aircraft models.
Some of these are so early, that even I never ran into them as a kid. ;-)
The plastic-related ones are:

An early take on Bare Metal Foil:

Vacuform plastic bodies and wings/styrene details; build either as
gliders or for display:

(I had one of those when I was a kid, but don't remember which one. I
didn't know that anyone ever made a model of this as a injected-molded
kit:

Pat - Was talking with Nick Argento of Glencoe one day last week and
he stated that he wants to release the X-1B later this Spring. So you
might get a chance to try anyway.

Did you look at the pictures of that thing? No, it would be a lot better
to start over from scratch than reissue it.
Molding was very crude even in the original release; Lord knows what the
molds would turn out nowadays.

Whatever happened to the Stinson TriMotor?  For awhile it was listed as
coming soon.  AFAIK, it never did.

I spent some time last night going through his site.  There's some great
stuff there along with lots of good memories.

Although the web pages are very large, there's a lot of great stuff on
old model kits here also:

I neglected to mention that some of those Allyn kits made a comeback in
the '70s.  Microscale (Yep, the decal people) had them moulded and were
available in large square yellow boxings that were about 4-5 inches
deep.  I recall the XF-92A and the YF-102A and I have seen the A3D built
up.  I'm not sure it wasn't an original Allyn though.

I also found, awhile ago, a similar page on the wooden "solid models"
that I started with in the BP (before plastics) era. I have been
buying old wooden kits from a few older gentlemen (that is, my age),
so they are still around in the storage cellars of some folks. I
fondly remember them.  Every so often a company starts up that rekits
some of these, but these companies never seem to stay in business.

Strombecker, Monogram, DP, Megow- those were the days of REAL
modelers :-)

I think he was concentrating on companies who made wood aircraft models
at one time.
Did Renwal ever do any kits that had wood parts?
