They'd better hope that those Marine V/STOL F-35s pan out, or the two
carriers don't have anything to fly off of them.
That would be a mess that makes the old Skybolt ALBM cancellation look
like a minor embarrassment.

Don't hold your breath.  The UK government is looking for excuses to cancel
these. Probably the first to go will be the F-35 and once that is gone,
there will be no reason for carriers of this size.

I did read somewhere that the design spec allow for these new carriers to
converted to a conventional launch configuration  ( Catapults.)   with a
minimum of fuss. I guess we will have to wait and see,  regards  Jim

I bet not with a minimum of money! You have to pay more for "less
fuss" :-)

That's what they say...  but where are they going to get the aircraft?  You
can bet your bottom dollar that the MOD won't simply take something off the
shelf. They will want major modifications and installation of British
equipment which will push he unit price up threefold and push the in-service
date back ten years.

If that sort of thing happened now, the current UK government would hand the
Falklands over to the Argentinians and pay all the administrative costs as
well!  Within twenty years the French would own the Channel Islands and the
Scilly Isles, the Irish would own the Isle of Man, Rockall would belong to
Denmark and the Norwegians would own Scotland.
