Concur. Between the spam, that nut job who thinks MI5 is coming for
him and the raving anti-Semitic jerks there hasn't been much room for
anything to do with scale models lately.

interest a bit more.

Hi there.

And that is a real big shame. I think the proliferation of spam on
these rec groups might be discouaraging new members. If they access
the group through Google instead of a newsreader they might see two
pages (20 messages) before they see an on-topic modelling related
post. I think that turns them off.

I have decided to hang in here *JUST* to show the spammers and trolls
that I will not leave because of them. Unfortunately far too many
others have left to go to moderated forums where there is much less
spam and trolling.

With the warm air finally getting back up here the pond ice is melting
and I'll be able to spray paint out doors again.

I'll be launching the hull of my HMS Hood this weekend to check her
draught and trim.

Cheers from Peter

Been back and fourth to the docs at UCLA...got scoped again, then caught
pneumonia.  Got the results last week that I have "mild" Crohn's
disease...still trying to figure out what "mild" means.  More drugs...

Quit my band - creative diffs, coupled with thoughts that I probably
won't be able to keep up with both having a day job and playing on the
road, seeing as that's what they eventually want to do.  But I'm still
doing some session/utility type playing here locally, and may get in on
a city sponsored session workshop if that pans out.  Crewed a gig with
another band of friends last Saturday, will probably keep doing
that...but they're increasingly wanting me to play too, so...maybe...one
day...

I know a couple people that have it - bad stuff, if it gets you
severely.  Increases my risk for colon cancer, too.  Right now it looks
like I'll be able to control it - I'm already eating 2250 mg of Colazal
three times a day.  So far that seems to be working...got some pain, but
at least I'm not bleeding.

I'm in the process of putting my studio back together - the heart of it
was going to be an old Yamaha C-70 preamp that I was going to use to
switch signal between my TASCAM 688 and a G5 iMac...really nice hybrid
set up.  But the volume pot on the C-70 is out in one channel and I
gotta get it repaired before I can really get down to biz.  I'm also
still toying with buying a Mackie 24.4 Onyx board and an ADAT 24 channel
HD recorder...that would really give me a pro setup.

But it looks like my bikes are going to eat this year's tax return...the
'03 is shorted somehow, and the '98 needs tires and a 30K service and
some other luvin'.  Anyway, once I get some stuff on tape I'll be
posting some noise.

i know you have sense enough to take care, so i'll save the nag.
i remember you talking about that set-up, sounds sweet.
taxes? i been to dallas. old groucho joke.
the irs is giving $300 to the poor. maybe i can get a full tank of gas.
let me know where you post the noise.

Seems I overpaid because of a windfall after I was hospitalized and I'm
getting a good chunk back, but the wagon's coming to pick up my bikes
tomorrow - I need two tires and 30K service on one, and the other has a
short of some kind and needs a 17.5K service...so there goes my chunk.

Oh well...I'd been putting off the luvin' on the '98 for about a year,
time to pay the piper.  I feel like being on my wheels now that the
weather's getting nice.  We'll see how I hold up health-wise for trippin'.

i got to show you my $300 sr. a little gem, especially for a 30 year old.
i put the noisy exhaust that was on the hot rod on it to be as loud as
possibel.
i spent the day rebuilding the petcock, cleaning the carb and sticking a big
capacitor on. i'm sick of the desert eating batteries in 2 years. it runs
sweet.
let's hit the road! model shop trip would be cool. how's about victorville?
there's actually a hobbytown.

I've been wanting to get to the Harley shop in V-ville for some time
now.  That sounds like a trip worth making.  I'm hoping my ponies will
only be gone a week and I'll have them back by or before next Friday.

...I think the last model I bought was a 1/32 Special Hobby X-15A-2.
Can't even remember the last time I worked on one...oh, yeah - while I
was off work.  Working sucks...busts my muse for a lot of stuff.

Hi there.

Nope, I'm not dead but I almost feel like I am at times.

I am currently working on my 1/400 Lindberg HMS Hood. Got a RC radio
and a micro servo for it yesterday.

I have back dated the model to how the ship appeared As Approved 1920.

It is most scratch-built and/or heavilly modified. You do NOT get a
HMS Hood out of this kit with out a lot of extra work.

Been busy with the after-market 1/72 decals database. Current count is
3,041 and just getting started. The entire database disappeared for a
couple of weeks. Still don't know what happened. Started a new one in
a slightly different format, so of course I found the original (with
over 2,000 entries). Just finished combining them yesterday. Anyone
care to participate drop me an e-mail at maiesm72@netscape.comWorking

The products and services spammer has been hitting more than just
RMS for a long time.

If anyone uses SLRN as their newsreader, the following rule will
eliminate most if not all of it:

Score: =-9999
% the chinese products and services daily spammer
   Expires: 02/28/2009
   Message-ID: googlegroups.com
   {::
       Subject: wholesale
       Subject: sneaker
       Subject: china
   }

Basically, it kills any articles posted via googlegroups that have
wholesale, sneaker, or china in their subject.

of course, this means you might miss out on a discussion about wholesale
trumpeter bargains ;)

Mad-Modeller - 05 Apr 2008 06:15 GMT
Just to talk models here instead of our usual OT stuff, I'm working
on a R-M '70 Challenger.  This is the one with the metal body.  I've
discovered that Krylon Old Ivory works very well at matching the body
colour.
To be different, I wiped off (acetone) the 440 markings and am
converting the engine to a 383 with parts from a Lindberg '64 Dodge 330.
Once again using Krylon paints I have sprayed the interior in a
satin finish bronze and am attempting to detail the dash with a silver
Sharpie and another paint pen I found at Michael's.
I used Humbrol's Gun Metal on the leaf springs and polished that
out.  It gives the springs a different texture to the gloss black
structural parts.
For a diversion I'm also working on a Model Power die-cast Skyraider
that I have stripped of its Korean War-era Sea Blue.  Also took off the
'rocket rack' but I have discovered that went below the wing's
undersurfaces and I will have to re-apply after modifying them.
Several rockets have been removed to make way for some iron bombs and I
need to consult the spares box for some other items to hang under the
wings.
I'm still up in the air about the final colour scheme.  SEAC
camouflage would be neat but Gull Grey and White tend to call to me.
   So what's everybody else doing?
