All,

http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Navy/Douglas-TA-4J-Skyhawk/1333354

Depicts the White/Red Scheme used by the Navy/Marines on their Training
Aircraft. Any good choices for the Red Color ?

This is going to be for a rather large model, 1/9 Scale so the White I
might do from a rattle can and could do the same with the Red or use an
Airbrush since there isn't any really large areas.

Thanks in advance !

Regards

Bill

I've been told by a few shop owners that Model Master Italian Red works
for this scheme, but I don't see how because all the airplanes I ever
encountered in the Training Command at Navy Kings are/were painted white
and orange.  Need to look for a shade of training orange - on the red
side - but still an orange.

MM Italian Red is a vermillion.  I have a '72 Road Runner painted in
that colour and sometimes I think it's more orange than red.  It might
work just fine for OP's Skyhawk, IMHO.

Quite possible - I've never used it.  Give it a try!

Rufus,

Thanks for the information. A trip to the local emporium turned up a can
or Tamiya "Italian Red" which does have Orange in it. While It probably
could use a bit more Orange, the color appears to match a number of
photographs pretty good - though that's usually risky <g>. So I'll use
that with gloss white. Make applying the decals easy, and then flat
coat. Because this is a rather large scale, appx 1/10 or so, and
constructed of foam I coated all the surfaces with PolyAcylic in an
effort to reduce the visibility of the underlying foam. The paint
doesn't attack that so this might actually look OK.

Thanks All !

Bill
