Italeri showed their "hottest" kit which is the 1/35 ITA5603
Schnellboot S100. We took several pictures of this kit with details
from stern to bow. Pic. 1, Pic. 2, Pic. 3

Thanks to Harold Stockton for bringing this up in SMML.

Plus aftermarket pototetch and accessories it will probably set us
back by $300.

What exactly are the things that look like giant harpoons lying on the
front deck?:

aren't they used to grab ropes, etc to assist in docking?

with the pic offered, now about a  which would win debate btwn the  PT
boat and the S100.

I thought that also, but did you see the _size_ of the things?
In scale, they must be around 15-20 feet long and probably weigh a
hundred pounds or more each.
And what's the need for the pointed steel-shod end?
Harpooning downed RAF fliers in the water? :-D

S-boats were significantly faster than PT boats, as well as better built
and armored, so they probably win.
The model just _begs_ for RC - and since it's the later, more
streamlined and armored version than the Airfix early type, is a lot
more aesthetically appealing than the Airfix one.

Somehow it doesn't look quite right; boxy kalotte, "plastic" looking.
Italeri reused the 40 mm Bofors rear deck gun instead of 37 mm German
version.

Oops.  My mistake.  It is the 37 mm German cannon.  4 am with insomnia
isn't a good time to see things well.

That last point may not be off-kilter; the Germans may have mounted
captured Bofors guns on some S boats, as they did make good use of a lot
of captured equipment.
