Yeah, it's a 'G'.
Either they have the wrong title up or the wrong illustration, as
Academy did have an 'E' moulded.

Retro-fitted, as I recall.  The 'G' was the first production model with
the chin turret.  And yes, the chin turret was adapted from the YB-40.
It helped answer the problem of head-on Luftwaffe attacks.

Any idea what you're using for the boat?

Call me Sgt. Schulz: I know nothing.  OTOH, I'll bet somebody here does
know what the boats were like.

It was supposed to be a real pain-in-the-rear to build; they had one in
Scale Modeler way-way back.

Thanks for the post it was very informative but I'm afraind there are too
many reboxings of items which should have been pensioned-off *decades* ago
for my liking.

Just how many "new" kits does Airfix release?  For some reason this
company reminds me of a company that is stuck with 30 year old
inventory and just keeps rewrapping it in a new box...

Hopefully it's the last time for them doing that.  I can understand
why this is happening if they haven't got a whole wad of cash to play
with, to sit down and have people go out and re-measure all the old
aircraft and fix the old errors in measurements and ignore
hashed-together aircraft in museums made from various marks, make
totally new moulds, etc...

Hopefully if they then get enough spare cash coming back in from the
older stuff, they'll be able to knock out a more professional range of
things.

Just a thought.

How about the JB issues?
I don't how exactly you stick a Vickers Light Tank into a WW II diorama,
but it's pretty interesting to have a model one to purchase at all.

I wouldn't mind building an EB-57E.  The Aircraft Grey colour scheme always
suited that aircraft extremely well.

In my opinion, it's the dangly bits that make a model.  The EB-57E has the
possibility of deployed flaps and airbrakes and there's that huge canopy,
with all the cockpit detail potential. And when you consider the panel rash
(stencils) and the potential for some nicely restrained weathering, then it
is a superdetailer's dream.

Oh... don't get me started...   As a railway modeller, I'm particularly
susceptible to that affliction!  Can you imagine just how anal I can get

Yeah, the big bubble dome on the Canberra's pilot's position means that
superdetailing the cockpit will be something worth doing, particularly
with a replacement vacuform canopy.

I'm guessing he started with the Revell 1/85th kit but if someone knows
better, tell us, please.

I'd never even heard of the Canberra before I saw one at Gaydon in 1968.
That's mainly because Airfix didn't make one at the time. I found out much
later that 'other' British company did but I tended to avoid them.

I also have a FROG Hunter FGA9 as well.  Then there are numerous FROG kits
in NOVO bags and boxes.  I have a couple of Gannets, a couple of Typhoons, a
Martin Baltimore and, if memory serves, a Miles Martinet.

I've thought about building one of the Gannets in parallel with the
Trumpeter kit.

Yes, all Novos were ex-Frog including the Swordfish. There was no
Swordfish from Lindberg. Frog, Airfix, Matchbox, diecast from Corgi.
There should be a new kit from the MPM combine in the not too distant

For real fun, put the Frog Vickers Vimy together sometime.
In pre-superglue days, that was like being condemned to Hell regarding
the inter-wing bracing struts.
Put tape on them... put rubber bands on them... and watch them fold up
diagonally as the glue dries.
That being said, the Frog Miles Magister glider was one of the first
model kits I ever built, under the "Airlines" release label. :-D

Pity.  Most of those kits came with a propellor.

Had the same experience back then with the original Vimy kit. About
that time Dave Boksanski turned me on to MEK and I started churning
out biplanes.

The Magister was a trainer. I think you mean the General Aircraft
Hotspur II. There was even a variant with two fuselages. Airmolds did
a conversion for it. Imagine a realy sleek, svledt Zwilling. :-)

Yup, here they come.
About time the Canberra gets its due.
Dare I dream? A 1/32 scale Sea Vixen?
Okay, I'll settle for a Meteor.
And, of course, a 1/24 scale Hawker Hunter.

Assembling _that_ would be a Holy Thing. :-)

Man has a tendency to look back on a "Golden Age" in the past, but I have to
wonder of we are actually living in a Golden Age now.

Let's consider.  After years of mediocre or downright inaccurate Hunter kits
in 1/72, we now have the two beautful Revell ones.  Trumpeter has had a
really good go at filling in the FAA gaps - Wyvern, Sea Hawk, Sea Fury,
Gannet. MPM will shortly release a Sea Vixen FAW1 and the FAW2 version will
be in an Xtrakit box. The same has happened with Meteors (FR9, F8) with more
to come (F4 and, wonder of wonders, a T7).  And there are no less than three
companies - Academy, MPM, Trumpeter - all threatening us with Lightnings.

Now we just need up-to-date Javelins and Buccaneers and the set will be
complete. Or complete enough for me anyway. Although some of the more
esoteric Brit test a/c would be very welcome in injection plastic form.
Yes, I know there's resin, but I'm not too keen on mixing resin kits and a
hot, humid tropical climate...

I'd be greedy and ask for Vampires, Venoms, a Swift and a Scimitar as well!

Yes, you're right Enzo. Those additions would indeed round out the set.

The plane didn't look quite right, and it didn't fly quite right either.

But it's necessary to have one so the progression from Spitfire to
Scimitar is readily seen.
I built one of those a few years back and did it up a little better than
the first one I had in the '60s.  I filled in all those markings in the
plastic and used Humbrols and Modeldecal markings.  IIRC, it's still
about 96% finished - and holding.

The vertical fin looks too small, and I suspect they made the same
mistake we did originally on the F-100 in regards to vertical fin area
needed on aircraft flying at near-sonic and supersonic speeds.

I can only vaguely remember what my Hawk one was like... did it have
landing gear?
I always remember all the underwing rockets on their F-84 Thunderstreak kit.

Yes, LG were present on mine but the wells were just marked out on the
plastic.  There were 4 small bombs to hang under the wings, too.

The early Airfix Hunter had 48 RPs to hang underwing, IIRC.  I've never
seen a picture of a real one carrying such a load.

Yeah, Airfix models played a very important part in my youth also; first
model I ever painted was a Airfix Ar-196 floatplane.
Now.. regarding that 1/12 model of  Kylie Minogue that Airfix intends to
do in their Doctor Who series... is it possible to capture that petite
super-heated ultra-vixen's innate lust in a five-inch-high styrene figure?
I think not.

Scale _this_ down to five inches high:
http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2002/erotic-kylie-p1.php

Seriously, what is fascinating about her is that when you see her
proportions... right down to her face and eyes... and you'd _think_
she's around a svelte six feet tall, rather than five-feet-one-inch tall.
She's diminutive, yet perfectly proportioned for a person of that size
in her whole body, like she's a hobbit of some sort.

If they had run that on TV, it sure would have gotten some notice! :-)
You want to see a _really_ strange television show, Oxygen runs this in
the middle of the night on Sundays:
http://shoperotic.com/indexMASTER.htm
Two women and more vibrators and dildos than you can shake a stick at,
if that's your idea of a good time.
I stumbled on that one night a few weeks back, and thought:
"What...the...Hell...is...this?". :-D

I've seen that clip before and I love it. One of the very few genuinely
beautiful women in the public eye, IMO. I just wish she'd return my phone

I had saved this YouTube video just for something to help me wake up in

To take this further OT... while we're talking petite and sexy, search
YouTube for 'Alizee'. She's a sweet little French thing - I don't speak
Froggy, and bubble-gum pop really ain't my bag, but !ZOWIE!, talk about
Big-Badda-Boom. I don't have her number, or I'd call and leave a message...

That is Kylie singing the words to "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" over a
backing track from New Order's "Blue Monday".  That's quite outrageous!
