I've been very run down lately - doing very well with my gut, but battling chronic fatigue again. Been really bad over the last 2-4 weeks. Just had some blood work done and that's come back "normal" like it always does.
I was just over in Bakers-patch today (took the truck and also bought some more guitar stuff). A friend of mine went down on the mountain a few weeks ago, and I was visited him in the hospital...broken/dislocated elbow and ankle, 4 broken ribs, punctured/bruised lung, ruptured/removed spleen. And then he had a secondary infection after the spleen removal and they had to go back in and remove a growth from his abdomen. They think they'll be able to send him home tomorrow, but he's still got a long road ahead.

I had told myself I was going to buy myself a Rolex for my 40th...then I forgot...now I'm thinking 50th, but I don't really want a gold one. I want a stainless Daytona, but I'm considering one of these (or a Brietling), for about half as much -

Those are cool...my simple Swiss Army one got the sales gal's attention in a Jarred's not long ago, mostly because it's heavier than the ones in current production. It's pretty simple, but the weight of it alone is impressive - really solid chink of stainless. About the size of a silver dollar, so you wouldn't expect it to be that chunky. I carry it all the...er...time.

Yeah - that's one I don't have...an actual winder. Thats what I want to step up to - a winder/auto chrono. Since I actually use mine, I'd rather have stainless or titanium. My Invicta is ti - my current fav.

Being involved in aviation though, I also have a goodly deal of need to use my stop watch on the job - lots of times because I'm the only one in the room that actually has one, on my watch. That said though, the first thing I always do when I get home is take my watch off.
...as for "the future", my thinking is that once you figure out that there's ever less of it to be had, the more inclined you become to indulge in buying things like Rolex watches, Harleys, Corvettes, and guitars.

I'm not very trustworthy of anyone that tries to do anything with MY money that I can do myself - I still get a live paycheck, and not a direct deposit. Where does an employer get of having access to my bank account? Or anyone else, for that matter.
As I like to say - I "maintain a very close, personal relationship with my money". No e-biz, no ATM card, one credit card and pay that off in full every month. Secrets of my success, and my rep for managing money is nation-wide.

This is a really good TAL episode on the credit crunch in a global context and how we got to where we are - give a listen:

Really, REALLY stupid human tricks going on when it come to money and management of it around the world. Some folks think it may take another full-blown depression to snap us out of it and foster some personal responsibility, and I'm beginning to agree with them.

Not me, I've got it planned out already.
1) Set up retirement accounts for the kids, about $10,000 up front and let the interest accrue until they retire.
2) Smaller accounts for them to get started in life. Nothing elaborate just a safety net.
3) Pay off the house and all other debt.
4) New cars all around, well wife and me anyway. We dump all the limpers we have now, I get something for me with that night vision windshield, my night vision is fading, a pickup to haul stuff and whatever my wife wants.
5) The bulk of the cash goes into long term investments mostly safer lower yield plus a percentage goes into higher yield more risky things.
6) I pay my wife and myself weekly salaries as if we were still working, better than what we make now but still fixed with Cost of living increases yearly but it has to be less than the accumulated interest on the investments.
My goal is to not need a paycheck from anyone else for the rest of my life. It is beyond me how people can win so much money, enough so that they could live off the principal the rest of thier lives and live quite confortably doing so and manage to piss it away in as little as 2 years and end up in debt to boot.
There is a saying, "Money does not change you, it simply allows you to be the person you really are". I think there is a great deal of truth to that. If you are foolish or unable to manage your money it doesn't really matter how much you have.
Off to buy my Powerball ticket for tonite, wish me luck!
