damn, with kaiten, too?
would be neat if the add on makers support these with photo and resin.

==========================================================================
Hi there.
It seems as if there are going to be a number of the ship models re-
released too.
I have their so called HMS Hood in 1/400 scale. It sucks.
I have converted and built a couple of their 1/32 scale PT-109 models.
You *CAN NOT* build the PT-109 boat from the 1/32 scale kit because
you get the wrong engine room vent with it. And the hull is 3/4 inch
too short.
I hope their subs are more accurate than these two kits were.
I'd be interested in seeing the prices.
Cheers from Peter

...where's the one with the airplane? The Serian?..

did they do one?

I thought they were going to...maybe I was just hoping. That's the only
one I'd want.
...just went Googling, couldn't find anything. But the pics I did find
of the two are built even more disgustingly over weathered and crusted
up than folks are doing the U-boat examples...I guess no one realizes
that would be operationally and functionally death-inducing for a sub?
And it doesn't even look good, IMO...they all just look like hulks.
Nice looking kits, though.
I think of all the subjects I've ever attempted to research sub seem to
have the least amount of material readily available...

you don't think the one carrying two kaiten looks cool? i do, and especially
since the kaiten would be new and clean, easy to make look good.
also, the kaiten carriers were used in combat, something the seiran weren't.
that adds to the attraction for me.
the weathering is really overdone. it should be subtle on a craft after a 90
patrol. hints or rust, bits of grease and oil stains. they sure shouldn't look
like they never had more care than gas and go.

Actually, the Serian carrying sub has the distinction of being the only
modern foreign craft combination to actually bomb US soil - one bomb
delivered on Panama if I recall, and it was that demonstrated capability
that helped drive the fortification of the west coast that did
happen....anyway, I just plain like the lines of them better. This is
more the one I'd like to build, or one of any or all of the I-Class
aircraft carrying boats - I-9, I-15, or I-400:
http://www.rc-sub.com/bclass.html
http://www.allwoodwings.com/Ships/Submarines/Japan/0-LIST.htm
The I-400 Class would make for a real monster of a model in 1/72...not
to mention that a really fine upgrade for any of them would be to get
Tamiya 1/72 float-plane kits and put those on them in place of the kit
ones, etch and all. I'm more interested in aircraft than sui-subs.

i like them all. give me 2 of each.

They'll be bigger than my GATO, I think...and that's sayin' something...
...which reminds me - I'm still short an etch set on that one.

How about it?
I remember that you did post a lot of pictures in a binary group.
Since my ISP not carry binary groups I have to ask.
How much did I miss?
What is status on the GATO?
Do you have a HP where I can get inspired?
Ohh, I do have a faint memory of somthing like: "Curiosity killed the
cat....."
:-)

Wonder how it looks, the GATO that is :-)

I'm still stalled on my U-boat. I had posted a picture series on the
binary group, and I plan to repost the entire series
and...er...SUB-sequent...once I finish it. If you do an archive search
on binary posts by "Rufus" you may be able to find those - I've found
some of my stuff in the past that way. What I need to do build a
website of my own...yet another project...
I'm getting the itch to get on with the boat, though. I need to scratch
up some support structure for the pressure hull kit before I close the
hull - that and fitting all of that itty-bitty etch to the deck are
stumping me right now...trying to decide if I want to fit the deck first
and then paint it, or vise versa and touch it up afterwards...probably
the later. Pros and cons both ways.
As for my GATO, I haven't even started it yet. I ordered the complete
set of etch for it from Roll Models and came up short on the basic set,
so I need to get hold of that one. It's a really impressive kit...much
bigger than the U-boats in comparison. There's probably a few more
aftermarket goodies I'd like to...turned periscopes and barrels for the
guns would be nice. And a set of brass screws...I'd like a set of brass
screws for my U-boats as well.

Not to mention the I-400s weren't even ready until 1945 anyway. Not a lot of
time for such deterioration to occur.
Weathering is really overdone on to many models.

Speaking of model ships, I had heard that Lindberg was reissuing a sub
chaser. Told my local dealer to pick me up one, but he says it is not
available. I see nothing on their web site about it. Was this a bad
rumor?
