I just got a copy of the Airfix Cherokee Arrow. I've seen a few pics
of it in Finnish service, but am curious if anyone knows of other
military users. Especially if it ever wore camo. Civvies just aint my
thing for paint schemes :)
Thanks for any help...

Tanzania had some of the smaller Cherokee 140s as trainers, and Uganda had
some of the twin engine Aztecs in bush camouflage.  Besides, many African
nations use planes such as the Aerospatiale/SOCATA Rallye "Guerrier" in the
COIN/surveillance role and often camouflage theirs.  Perhaps some of the
Apartheid-era "Homeland" governments had lightplanes too...but usually
those were kept in a civilian-esque scheme.

Else: imagine a flying club run from a USAF, USN or USMC airbase.  Perhaps
the club that owns the plane decides to have it repainted in a scheme that
reflects their pride in their "day jobs".

I once was given the task to create a paint job for a flying club.  If they
had asked, I would have made a camouflage scheme for them.  Instead, they
went for a historically-inspired high-viz scheme.

I'll stick with historical themes, but you did touch on one of my
favorite subjects, the brush wars. One of these days I'm going to do
that Biafran T-6 I've built in my imagination for years.
So civilian style with Finnish roundels for the arrow will do. If I
ever start it...

The Piper Cherokee Arrow is one of my all-time favorites. N5020S was
owned by a close friend. We flew to a good many air shows and races
before he passed away suddenly. I even found photos of her as the
company demonstrator for magazine ads.

I can do a nice packet of material of the Finnish Cherokee Arrows
through MAI Research Service if you like. Drop me a line for more
info.

There is one other color scheme for the Arrow, NASA's aircraft.

Thanks Tom, I actually have quite a bit on the Finnish planes. But the
NASA scheme interests me, I never thought of that.
