So did everyone of my fellow US Americans have a good Independance
day? Did you all remember the meaning of the day? It' all about
freedom.
I spent part of last weekend immersed in it at Mount Vernon. Had an
excellent time, and even learned a little.

Lousy weather here. Couldn't even get the flag out today.
I did recently read the article in the latest MHQ on Clinton's
activities on the lower Hudson in support of Burgoyne in 1777.
If Howe hadn't run off with all the troops after Washington, Clinton
might have joined up with Burgoyne and cut the colonies in half.
The Revolution's outcome was never a foregone conclusion.

Bill - You might want to look for "The True History of the American
Revolution" by Alan Axelrod. It gives a plain-spoken account of the
Revolution and why things worked, with a good look at the
personalities (both sides) involved. I just finished it and it
explained a few things that were either glossed over in school or
ignored altogether.

Thanks, I made a note of that and will seek it out at my first chance.

Recorded (I hope...) "1776" off Turner Classic Movies. Strange
schedule they had this year. Sure, Alfred Hitchcock is great,
but no James Cagney/George M. Cohan until the early morning of
the 5th?
Our rock and roll station has put back into rotation their best
Public Service Announcement of the past decade:
"You can have my illegal fireworks when you pry them out of my
cold, dead fingers. ...which are lying in the grass over there."

Hi.
I had a great 4th.
Talked to younger son who just returned from Iraq.
(Stryker Brigade Combat Team) That made my day.
Mt Vernon, is just a few miles from my house :)

Parade in Larkspur/Corte Madera attracted over 15,000 people. Only two
of the Garbarino military vehicles, most do the parade in Novato. We
skip that one because of the holy rollers with their incessant "we are
the one true religion everybody else is going to hell" bullshit. They
hijacked that parade years ago. For the first time in years there were
no 'anti-war" entries. These had abandoned the "anti-war" premise and
showed their actual anti-Israel, anti-Jews platform a couple of years
back. A great many spectators had begun to stand and turn their backs
on these morons, with a few of our younger citizens dropping their
pants at the same time.
Every year we see more and more people standing and removing their
hats when the color party passes by. At least in this area the actual
meaning of the 4th, as well as Veteran's Day and Memorial Day, are
having a re-birth.
We skipped to county fair yesterday because of the crows. Going today
instead. Love the booths, especially the one with micro tools. Saved a
few bucks for that one today.
Cheers,
Tom
