Came across a couple of nice hard-to-find items this weekend.  I've
listed them on eBay at good starting prices.  All auctions end Tuesday
26 August approx 8 PM EDT.

MPC 9001 Pilgrim Observer scale model WITH SPARE PARTS

...Kids, note that while this is a rare kit - MPC never did a second
press run - you can still find these on occasion for $20-$25 bucks,
usually at swap meets. In this case, however, it appears this kit is
two kits tossed in the same box, probably by someone who bought the
kit for what it's really best used for: kitbashing. It's really one
excellent source of big greeblies!

...Note that for anyone buying this kit, I recommend that you replace
the extendable NERVA boom with something more sturdy, like an old FM
portable radio antenna. There's a whole lot of room for modding for
"accuracy" on this kit, but that's the one that stands out in my mind.

...Note that this is the grossly inaccurate "Block I" Apollo that
Revell made something like 27 and a half different scales and kit
versions of, never bothering to correct one single flaw in the kit all
the way though to the last kit that used the 1/96 version, the
Apollo-Soyuz Test Project kit from 1975. If you get this one, buy it
only for the collectability of MIB value, because it's really not
worth building. Even the escape tower's about a foot short when scaled
up!

...A fun kit from a movie so bad that Walt Disney turned over in his
grave *four* times(*). It's one of the few kits that screams
"lightsheet orgy!", although it would take about three years to carve
out the plastic from each of the triangles formed by the structure
truss.

Strangely enough, it actually looks good next to the old Monogram
"Battlestar Ponderosa"...:-P

(*) The running joke at the time was that after seeing "The Black
Hole", Satan decided to use it as a torture method in Hell. But after
seeing how Walt Disney - who was sent there for being a Hitler
sympathizer in the 30's - reacted to it, he recinded the order citing
that it was a punishment too severe even for the damned.

A friend of mine worked at Disneyland for a couple of yeras back int
the day. He lamanted that if only they had wound Disney's body with
copper wire, they could have generated enough power to light
Cinderella's Castle for Eternity!.

...The only reason they haven't thawed Walt out and cured him of
whatever killed him is that they're waiting for Roy to die first. Walt
would rip his head off if he were to wake up and find out how Roy had
let the company slip from his grasp and become the shitpile it became
under Eisner.

There's another one up at the same time:

Could there be rumors of a second press run of the kit?
Although unless the bidding goes crazy at the end, it could be
cheaper to get an old kit.

Something else I'm seeing a lot of it the Krafft Ehricke
spacecraft:

Oughta pick me up one of those.

Another Pilgrim Observer, admittedly in absolutely mint condition and
still sealed, sold recently for a lot more:

Not that I'm aware of, I found this in a flea market over the weekend
along with the other two I have for auction.

The other auction listing  is fine if you want a kit that's half built
but "looks" complete.  I take pains to account for all kit parts and
list my kits accurately with clear photos, specifying overall
condition and any missing (or extra!) parts.

ACH!  My bad reading comprehension; I thought your original post
was about coming across these items on ebay.  I didn't realize
you coming across them elsewhere and putting them up.  Hope I
didn't offend.

Well, if you've got a financial interest rather than just jawin'
I'll stop just wishing for a Pilgrim and put in a bid...
Well, now I'll take a day to try to talk myself into a higher
bid.

Good thing I didn't say something really offensive, like the
Cygnus is going for Mad Money. :)
Now, if I could convince myself of the scale...

...This was one of those kits that refused to just sit there on the
shelf and collect dust. You wanted to fly it around the room and
conquer space with it! The one I had was part of the "Space Pursuit"
set, with the "Pop-Art" box and another 50's style "Buck Rogers" sort
of ship. Repackaging of two old kits, but at the time I thought they
were pretty fracking cool. Spaceships *should* have fins the way cars
should have them. Because they look great and skatepunks impale
themselves on them :-)

...Oh, and IIRC, there was another repress of this kit not all that
long ago, one by itself in the same style of box.

...No, from what I've been able to gather there was only the one
press. The kit didn't sell that well, and it scuttled MPC's plans to
produce a couple of other "real space" concept kits based on designs
some of Von Braun's team were tossing about behind Wernher's back in
the late 60's. ISTR mention of a Mars lander and a space shuttle
concept, but again nothing ever saw drill to mold.

MJ,
Your index link at the bottom of your post doesn't seem to be
working. Altho, it could just be me…

They all at least need a space between the text and the start of the
URL for the links to work.

Try this instead!

No, MJ's message had each link on a line by itself; Don's newsreader
just messed up the line breaks when he replied.

The real problem is that one of those dots should be a slash, like so:

Oh yeah!  Sorry about that.  At least it was not like a fixed width
block of text with the quoting chevrons wrapped into the text lines,
something of which I've seen in this group somewhere. :-D

Sorry folks, didn't realize there was an error in the URL in the
signature.  I've also put a return between the name and the URL in
case any one else has a problem that way.  Here it is again:

Last day for the following auction items.  Prices still good but each
has about two dozen "watchers" and over 150 views each so bid early
and bid often! ;-)
