Tail colors for USN prewar carrier aircraft

I've seen several references to colors being assigned to carriers.
Black and green were assigned to the Lexington and the Saratoga, I
think.  But I have never seen anything except notes in captions.
Does anyone know of a list of the colors and when they were assigned?
