just saw from my CultTV newsletter that the 1960's Batmobile kit is
gonna be repopped, due in December.  Around $17.

Probably built it 6-7 times during my childhood. Didn't it go for 99
cents?

Craig

Just when I am totally losing interest in this hobby after 45 years,
they start bringing back all the stuff I built before. Nostalgia is
evil.  Maybe I'll just buy the kit and display the box only.

I think it was 98 cents.  Wasn't everything either 49 or 98 cents?

My brother built one.  I still have it.  I didn't built it because I
was disappointed that it was not the same scale as the AMT kits.

yeah, it was an odd scale, much smaller than I expected for a car kit.

i remember bigger kits like ships and some space rockets going for $1.49.
there was a model shop on s ridgeland ave in berwyn and he had some.
i always forgot the tax on 99 cent kits, it was 2 cents but he always let me
slide for the penny. it was a small space but was the epitome of an early 50's
model shop. half the space was built kits and i would gawk, wondering if i
would ever be that good. i remember that small, odd scale b-36. he had a built
one on the globe of the earth stand and the globe was painted. it was really
nicely done. i stared at it so much that there's still a good image on the old
brain cells.
he would call parents to makes sure that a kid buying only glue was legit. an
angry teen yelled all the way down to the corner when he couldn't buy some
glue.
there was an actual vacant lot, (honest!) and the teens would go there to
smoke and sniff. they played hooky a lot. they were tough with the da's,
pegged pants, and leathers with more chains than a chain gang.

...98 cents, in 1966 USD. I'm already hearing rumors of resin upgrade
kits to flesh out the cockpit with a more accurate dashboard,
batphone, and decals for the various campy bits as well. Should be an
interesting time once again for Bat-mania!
