I was just looking through the new Squadron Mail Order flier and noticed a kit
I'm interested in. It's a 1/32 scale D-520 from Azur (Czech Republic). I have
absolutely no experience with any Azur model kits. Can anyone tell me if
they're decent kits: Ouality/fidelity of detail, recessed panel lines,
sharpness of molding, quality of clear parts, decals, and resin parts (if any)
etc, etc?
Thanks for any info anyone can give me..........Bill Woodier

I've got thier Mohawk and Hanriot H-232. They look fine to me. The only problem
I see is no locating tabs for the wing or empennage, just a butt joint. The
detail is petitely enscribed with resin details and vac canopies. Haven't built
one yet but am anxious to do so.

Azure's kits are typical of the Czech model company offerings. Count on
reinforcing wing-fuselage joins, there will probably be some flash,
smaller parts may or may not be well-defined (they're getting better)
and you will have plenty of visible seams to keep you occupied. I have
seven of their kits, and they all look quite buildable. I've seen the
Laté 298 built up to a very nice result.

Hi Bill,
There are two versions of the D. 520 a standard kit with plastic parts and a few resin bits and a recently released "Hi-tech " version with resin and etched brass cockpit and details, I have both. The standard kit itself is very nice and is well moulded. It is a limited run kit and as such isn't shake 'n' bake but it is at the top end of limited run quality. You can find an in box review at:
http://kits.kitreview.com/d520reviewbg_1.htm
If you are only going to buy one I would suggest you get the "Hi-Tech" version. If you get the standard kit Contact Resine have just released an excellent detail set for this aircraft and I'll be buying one of these to detail mine. Check it out at:

under "Catalogue" and "1/32"

Thank s to all who replied to my question re the Azur D-520. I understand now
that there are two different versions, one with more resin and some etched
brass. Guess I'd better look for that one.
Thanks again, all......Bill Woodier

You might want to scare up a February SAMi. There's a short build-up
article and some prototype photos.
