(a) Collar and epaulet trim in artillery branch color

(b) the fact that the original was part of the 8.8 cm Flak 36/37 kit in 1/35
scale and they just pantographed him up...

$15? So just how much do you reckon Tamiya is charging for the glue?

best price I've seen for this series is 11.99 at modelexpo, but when
militaryhobbies has free shipping with a $50 order it all works out to be
about the same..... (and I always get more than $50)

The illustration doesn't really show it, but the piping around the collar and
shoulder straps would be red, indicating a member of the artillery branch.
Paint the piping white and he's an infantryman. The figure is simply a larger
version of a 1/35th scale figure released in 1973. He was the gun commander for
the Tamiya 88mm Flak kit, hence their description of him as an artilleryman.

It's very clear.  He's partially deaf.

Also, he's wearing an officer's pattern waistbelt with his Walther P.38 and
map case.

Aside from all the stuff that you and AMPSOne point out, there are also
the decorations over his left breast pocket.
