You are right, the plate thickness on the Titanic plastic models are way out of
scale. Even on a very large model, say 1/96 scale, the plate thickness would
be subtle, maybe .010 or so. To give you an example, when we make up hulls in
large scale we usually tape and just apply a few extra coats of primer to
represent hull plating, if it is done at all. Other guys use very thin
aluminum strips.
