who me? - 30 Aug 2004 21:38 GMT
Okay, I build a car about 1 every 20 years so this is new to me.

The Minicraft kit has a separate chrome tree but the spokes are molded
in black plastic. Is this how Minicraft does it or do I have
a defective sprue?  I can spray them with chrome silver but they
will not match the rest of the chrome....

Can anyone confirm that this is way the kit is supposed to me???

thx - Craig

Oh, and the kit has next to no painting instructions -

engine block, oil pan, valve cover, etc - ?
chassis and various fiddly bits underneath - ?
brake drums - ?

If this is the best Minicraft can do its my last kit I buy from them

Help - Craig

I've no idea if the kit should have chromed wheels or not, but an original
SS100 would have had painted wheels, as would most wire-wheeled cars of that
era. Chrome wires were pretty rare even in the 1960s and 1970s on all but
supercars, most cars restored with chrome wires never carried them when they
were new.

Bill.

interesting.  the finished pics showed chrome. If painted what color would they
be? lousy painting info with this kit.

one other painting option on the side panel art showed the kit finished in a
buff color. anyone know of a source for that. not all the british cars have to
be dark green or red.....

thx - Craig

Beige was a popular color and certainly a buff or cream derivative of that was
available according to the pix I've seen. You might try here:

AutoColorLibrary.com

You could probably do just as well with available model paint.

Probably silver-grey stove enamelling on a sports car, though saloons often
had the wires painted in body colour. With a specialised model like the
SS100 I would want to check out some images of the real thing.

I would have thought that there will be plenty of SS100 information online,
the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club and Jaguar Drivers Club would be good starting
points. Check out also the Scions of Lucas:
http://www.team.net/sol/ an excellent gateway to all kinds of British
vehicle clubs.
Cheers,
Bill.
