Will there be a conversion kit for this aircraft in the future? Make it a
A-5A anytime possible?

Also, I am looking for some information concerning the A-5A that was at the
Test Center at Patuxent River MD. I need some information and some pictures
of it. I have a friend that was in one and I want to get some pictures to
let him see it. I was wanting to build an A-5A for him.

William,

while anything is possible, I have heard absolutely nothing regarding any
aftermarket efforts to make it into an early version A-5.  Since the bird
was a pretty dismal failure in that roll, and there were almost no
operational markings, I suspect you might be on your own.

I don't think it would be a real difficult thing to do. as the relevant area
of the spine is pretty well defined on the kit.  I have not researched it
much, but I don't think the aft canopy actually changed either location or
angle, so it might be a matter of carving out the RA bulged spine and
replacing it with a lower one.

There are two really good books that cover most of the Vigi. history.  The
new Steve Ginter Naval Fighters book, and the older Aerofax Minigraph #9.
There are a couple others, but those two have most of the operational and
test squadrons well documented.

Would be a challenging conversion, but interesting.

Fine Scale Modeler did an article, years ago, on such a conversion, in
1/72nd scale.  It was a nice article, and a nice topic:  not a "major"
conversion; but enough work to make it a "fun" project.  Perhaps someone
here, with a complete set of magazines at hand, can let us know the exact
year and issue.

As with so many of the Fine Scale 1/72nd articles, this one is by Paul Boyer
and is in the January, 1993 issue.
Thanks for the reminder Greg.

I realize it's not a terribly difficult proposition to reshape the intakes
and engine feathers for an earlier RA-5 but I was wondering if anyone has
heart of any rumors of resin backdate parts for an earlier RA-5C

Paul Cotcher stated on HS that Victory Models was doing an early (-8
engined) RA-5C conversion for the Trumpeter kit.

Bill,
Did a google search and came up with this:
http://www.google.com/images?as_q=&svnum=10&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=A-5A
+Vigilante&as_oq=&as_eq=&imgsz=&as_filetype=&imgc=&as_sitesearch=&safe=off

If you can't cut and paste the URL I just went to "advanced image
search" and typed in A-5A Vigilante on the "exact phrase" line. It came
up with 16 hits. Now, if you were a little more creative than I was I'm
sure you could find lots more images. 8-)
