The models were Mantua, with some gaudy bright brass detail parts.

A fellow last year approached me at my tables at the Timonium Show offering
me his Franklin Mint Southern Rwy PS4 4-6-2. He told me he paid about $300
for it, but since it was such a "rare collectors item" of extraordinary
quality, he would let it go for what he had in it. As the co-promoter of
this show and also being a dealer in brass, I did not want to ruin his day
with my usual 25-40 minute (condensed version) opinion of this wonderful
"collector's" item. Before I could really answer his request, his eyes
caught a very nicely painted PFM/United counterpart for $295 (early run) on
my table. "Sure, go ahead and examine it..run it on the test track if you
like."
After gladly paying me the $295 plus tax, no more words were said about the
Franklin Mint model, and I know for sure the field of brass locomotives
gained one new member that day.

A friend of mine wanted to get a train set for her son and showed me a Franklin
Mint ad about two years ago. That particular set was made by Bachmann, so I
told her she'd be better off going to a LHS and buying things individually.
