I have an Atlas GP-38 that rumbles a bit when slid across
my Atlas code 55 track. I seem to remember someone
offering a service where you'd send the complete loco in
and they'd turn down the flanges a bit for a nominal fee.

I've tried search engines and Google but have not had
any luck.

Anyone know of such a service?

Ken,
if an *ATLAS* loco is not running properly on *ATLAS* track, instead of
turning the flanges, I would recommend contacting Atlas Customer Service.
It is their product after all...  They have excellent service, so they should
make it right.  GP38 is a fairly new locomotive - it should be compatible
with their code 55 track.  And they should take care of the fix free of
charge - since you did nothing wrong.

But make sure that something else (like ballast stuck to the tops of the ties)
is not causing this problem.  Do your test of a fresh unballasted piece
of track to see if the problem is still there.

And I don't know of a service to turn down flanges.  I do stuff like this
myself (have a Sherline lathe).  I've read somewhere that some people do this
using a file (while powering up the loco).  I don't think that is such a good
for a precision made N scale locomotive.
