Digitrax DCC ... can anyone tell me what it's worth?

I just found a brand new Digitrax DCC controller in my closet that's
brand new, never used and still in the box.  It's the Chief Premium
starter set.  I have no idea what this thing is worth and I need to sell
it.  I looked on their web site but I don't see this model.  The only
one that they have is the Super Chief which I think probably replaced
this one.  As far as I know this one is a few years old.  Is this thing
worth anything or should I just toss it?

Thanks.

I'm sure it is worth something. Have you looked at ebay?

Yes, I looked on eBay but didn't find the exact same one, only newer
ones.  Like I said, I think that since this one is a few years old it
may have been replaced with newer units.  This one has never even been
used and even has the video that comes with it.

Yes it's worth something. All the components can be used in the current
Digitrax systems. The Booster can be used as a slave booster for a power
district and the throttle can be used as is.

Perhaps you can use the Wayback Machine to find some info about this
when Digitrax still offered the model:

Thanks a lot.  The Wayback Machine brought it right up.  I didn't know
that thing existed.  According to Digitrax, the unit that I had
originally sold for $450 so I guess what I've got is worth a few bucks.
 Thanks a lot.

Its really a great setup because like they said the components still work with
new Digitrax units.  The great thing about Digitrax is open architecture on the
network, not a closed and cranky protocol.

Marc,

The booster unit - is it a DCS100 or a DCS200?  What else is in the
'Starter Set'?  Any throttles, decoders?
The starter sets are about $450 MSRP - the Street Price is about $350.
If this is a radio version, the Street Price is about $500.
The DCS100 units came in a 'Chief' starter set that included a DT100
throttle and a single decoder.  Later sets came with the DT300 throttle,
IIRC.  The 'Super Chief' set includes the 'Super' DT400 throttle, and a UP5
panel instead of a decoder.  'Radio Super Chief' sets include the a DT400R
throttle and a UR91 radio receiver unit.  The 5 amp sets have the DCS100
booster, the 8 amp sets have the DCS200 booster unit.
I have an original 'Chief' set from the 'mid to late' 90's, it came with a
DT100 throttle that I had factory upgraded to a DT100R throttle. It has been
in service all these years and has not missed a beat.  I just picked up a
DB100+ booster for $100 from a dealer who was cleaning out some of his older
Digitrax stcck.  I suspect the booster was in a 'Big Boy' or an 'Empire
Builder' starter set......

It's a DCS100 with a DT100 throttle.  The decoder package says LT-1 on
it.  I'm not sure if that's the version of the decoder or not.  It says
Decoder and Loconet cable tester on the package.  And it's not a radio
unit, it's the one that uses the phone cords.  There's also a DH140 DCC
modile decoder with it and the original user manuals.  Like I said, none
of the stuff has even been opened and is still in it's original plastic
bags.

As a starter set, it probably has two main things: a booster (electronics
box about 4x5x5" or so) and a throttle (thingy with a bunch  of buttons and
knobs). It may even have a  decoder (smallish circuit board maybe inclosed
in blue plastic).

To determine what this really is, the booster has a number on it  like
DCS100, DB150 or some such: what does yours say?

Likewise, the throttle should have a model number: DT200, UT1 something like
that.

If there is a decoder, it should have an identifier as well, like DH120,
DN120, whatever.

ID these things as maybe we can be a bit better help. Digitrax packages up
their various pieces and sells them as "empire builder," "chief" etc. If it
really is a "chief," if probably has a DCS100 and a DT200 or 300 throttle.

The current chief has a DCS100 booster which sells on the street for about
$230; the DT300 throttle is $124; the UT2 is $80; the current Chief has a
DCS100, and a DT300 and sells together for $340.

I hope this helps. If you really have a DCS100 booster, it is a good booster
as the primary control station for someone who has a Zephyr or Empire
builder who wants to upgrade.

Thanks, that did help and it's pretty much what you said it was, a
DCS100 with a DT100 throttle and a DH140 decoder.  There's also a
decoder and loconet tester and all of the original manuals and packaging
as it came from the factory.  The only time its even been out of the box
was today when I looked at it to see what it was.

So why don't you get together with Matt Brennan who is talking about the
Prodigy system in an earlier Post.
Seems like you two are a match.

Hello,

If you still have the set, I would be interested in buying it, if the price
fits.

Let me know.
