In June 2004 I was able to visit Walt Huston's Onyx Division N-Scale layout.
Its since been dismantled and will never be displayed again. Anyone who had
the opportunity to see this amazing layout will not soon forget it. It was
last displayed as a local layout during the NMRA July 2004 convention in
Seattle, WA. USA. This layout has been featured in many magazines over the
years. I asked Walt if he'd mind me posting some of my shots of his layout
on my web site and asked him if he'd like to prepare a history also. Walt's
text and my photographs comprise the gallery.

Very nice. Do you have a track plan? And an indication of size?

Thanks,

Colin

Sorry, no track plan. His layout took up almost an entire 2 car garage. I
seem to remember him saying it had a 5 scale mile track run when routed
through the peninsula, 3 scale miles around the outside perimeter.

I've already been bugging him! He's almost got the track completed.

Thanks Bill. I really struggled with my camera on that visit. I had a couple
of 'perfect' user settings all set up to use on my visit that got screwed up
on that vacation before I got to Walt's house. My Nikon CoolPix 8700 can
take great shots when programmed properly. Its very difficult to remember
all the buried menus and controls without the manual. Many of the layout
shots were not acceptable. I did get lots of Mt.Rainier photos that are
really something later that day using just the pre-programmed factory
settings.
