Thanks for the kind words Matt. The Super Chief you saw is not mine. It is a
brass model belonging to one of the club members. I believe the importers
are Overland for the engine and Challenger for the cars. I currently have
completed a chair car consist, mostly Walthers' cars, that is a
representative stand-in for the El Cap or Golden State. I pull it with a
three unit 325 class F7 that I built about six years ago using highly
modified Stewart shells. You can see that engine on the third "gallery" page
on the LAMRS web site. I'm still waiting for a couple undec Walthers cars to
come out so I can complete the Super set. I prefer the undecs as they are a
bit easier to work with for detailing and painting with Alclad. I'm going to
supplement the consists with a couple Regals and a Palm using car sides from
the Santa Fe Railway Historical and Modeling Society. For power I have a
four unit Genesis F3 set that I am now finishing with added detailing.

Wow! Someone has an impressive and hefty investment in that train. I'd
certainly enjoy to see a brass train of that value in person. However,
that's a long road trip for us. Not one I see us making anytime soon.
Our dream trip is to visit the San Diego [HO scale] La Mesa Railroad
Club layout as shown on the cover of the 1/04 MR magazine. That issue's
cover is my all-time favorite as is that article and the fold out.
Might I ask why you chose to model the Santa Fe? You clearly have a
passion for their trains. I must confess that my selection of the Santa
Fe was purely aesthetic. I just love the Warbonnet paint scheme and
their blue & yellow freight scheme as well. If you add your completed
passenger trains to the club website, please announce it on the
rec.models.railroad NG. I will certainly be visiting your club's website
as part of my ongoing routine to enjoy model train images offered over
the internet. They're always inspiring.
Thanks Jim,
Matt
