I've actually been getting some work done on the benchwork and track
work lately. Today I had to pick up my daughter at school for a doctors
appointment so I found myself getting home very early. My son who is almost
four loves to help with any project so I picked him up early too. I was all
geared up to get in some extra time running splines.
I have a dog door into my train shed so they have a place to go when
they are outside and the weather gets bad. When I got home no enthusiastic
dogs greeted me as normal. I called them over and over. No Dogs. As I walked
by the shed calling for them I heard a snarling noise inside. When I went in
to see what was going on I found that under a section of the bench work that
I just completed was our Dalmatian nudging and licking five of what would
soon be eight pups. The snarling and growling was because my old yellow lab
was in there retrieving the pups when they got a foot or so away from mama
and putting them back by the tits. This was an incredible thing to see but
it infuriated mama dog. They are out there now and the lab is still watching
over the new pack. One of our cats has joined in and curled up with them to.
Our older cat took one look and freaked out. She climbed up on the roof and
will not come down.
Needless to say I though that drilling and sawing and maneuvering around
the new born pups was probably not the best thing to do today. Tomorrow when
things settle down I'll move them all into the house and get back to work on
the railroad. So ends another day in the saga of the TMRR.

Cats as a rule hate changes to the routine. That's why I like dogs. They're
flexible.
AND...
Dogs have masters, cats have servants.

Oh, oh --- you better file an embargo with the AAR until things get back to
normal.

Fantastic news! That had to be a GREAT surprise and find. Best of luck
securing good homes for the pups when the time comes. Pets are great.

Matt,
Yes it was a good surprise and they came about a week sooner than we
expected too. I was also surprised to find them in the shed as the animals
rarely go in there. Even if they are stuck outside in a storm they almost
always hang out on the back porch or in the green house. I figured she would
either have them in the green house under the potting bench if outside or
under my desk inside as these have been the two spots she has staked out for
weeks now. The pups are fine, fat and healthy. Our friends, relatives and
neighbors all love Dolly the mama dog and we have more homes for them than
we do pups. We plan to keep one. My little boy is fascinated with them as
any child would be and I'm glad we were in time for him to see some of them
being born. Bruce

David,
No the layout is HO. But they might make suitable garden railroad size
grizzly bears right now.

This is the funniest story I ever heard! I can't stop laughing out loud!

Years ago we had a boxer who had a litter when we lived in Ft. Sill, Ok. A
doctor lived in the quarters next to us. He had a German shepherd male. After
the pups were two or so weeks old, Liesel would like a bit of time away ever so
often and the shepherd would come into the puppy box and babysit while she took
a break.
One will note that boxcar and boxer have the same prefix, so this is train
related. <g>
Congrats, btw.
