Just out of curiosity, with all the emphasis on sound nowadays, has
anyone come out with a chip/system to mimic the old interurbans?
I admit the change in note as it passed each pole would be a little
difficult to sync :-).
And then there'd have to be an ozone generator :-).
Not an urgent need, but I might be looking for one a couple of years
from now.

Larry, I asked a similar question on the NCE and Soundtraxx groups. A
number of replies suggested the following:
http://www.loksound.de/
http://www.d-i-e-t-z.de/
http://www.dallee.com/site_index.htm
They all do sound decoder/modules featuring electric locos, which could
be readily adapted for use in an interurban. This is exactly what I have
in mind.

Yet another wirehead crawling out of the woodwork?

I had the (mis/good?)fortune to live in Chicago in the '50s. Somewhere
in the back of my mind is an imp that keeps wanting to model the Loop,
along with the occasional North Shore passing through.
But it may never happen. At the speed I get things done, I won't have
finished my steam power layout before I expire of old age :-).
