Roger T. - 27 Jun 2005 03:33 GMT > If our country is so rotten why do all the foreigners want to come over > to live and take up our jobs? All foreigners? Some perhaps, probably from Mexico and Asia. A very small minority in fact. And they're (usually) just trying to escape crushing poverty in their home country and, thanks to Hollywood and American T.V., where there's no such thing as a poor American, see the U.S. of A as the land of milk and honey.
You don't see thousands of people per day trying to sneak across the border from Canada into the U.S. of A, do you?
I'm a "foreigner". I'm even a "foreigner" in Canada, my chosen home. I know it's hard for you to grasp, but there are billions of people on the Earth who don't want to live in the U.S.A. and who think their homeland is just as great as the U.S. of A.

Bruce Favinger - 27 Jun 2005 22:41 GMT Mark, We don't have job stealing foreigners. The only foreigners that stole anything were the early ones mostly from Europe and they specialized in stealing land from the Indians. The Indians were originally foreigners too coming over from Asia. There were no job opportunities when the Indians arrived but being savages they were happy enough just killing animals and each other for thousands of years. No one in Asia wanted them to come back anyway. When the ice bridge melted the Asians had great parties with bon fires and made silly faces and finger jesters at the Indians on the other side of the growing gap of water. Americans have been ridiculed ever since. The Indian's were very wise and most went south learning where to find every hallucinogenic plant that grew on the continent, took up smoking and exterminating as many species of animal as possible. The Europeans created the first jobs in America. These jobs were in the real estate business trading almost worthless trinkets to the Indians for land. It was soon discovered that it was quicker just to take the land and shoot the Indians so new job types entered the market. These were Trailblazing and Frontiersmanship. Prestigious names for land grabbing Indian exterminators. Once the Indians were more or less run off the eastern coast the wheels of industry and agriculture created so many jobs that more and more foreigners were needed. There were never enough. Back then you were only a foreigner until you got here. Then you were an American who was free to steal land from the Indians and peruse happiness right up until someone killed you. There were so many jobs that the freedom loving people of the new nation had to keep slaves or much work would go undone. Eventually the contradiction of having slaves in the Land of the Free became obvious to three or four people and they made a big fuss about it. More and more thoughtful people said "Duhh....that's right, I never thought of it that way" except for a number of folks in the southern portion of the nation who had their own special accent. Having become inbred they embraced various rationalistic strains of Calvinistic and fundamentalist Christianity that were already corruption's of Christianity anyway. Hence they were unable to distinguish right from wrong. (Today much of our leadership can trace their roots back to these folks.) So it was necessary to have a Civil War to sort things out. Foreigners were welcome to participate and shoot each other too. The Civil War was the greatest undertaking ever made by a nation to destroy itself. As we are still a nation the whole affair was a complete failure. However the slaves were now free to become impoverished exploited workers that could only be discriminated against. Plenty of menial jobs were available because the war thinned out the ranks impoverished exploited workers very effectively. Once again prosperity showed its face upon America. More and more foreigners came over to steal land from the Indians. The great western expansion created many new jobs for foreigners especially the Chinese who were very hard working and didn't eat much. The Railroads loved the Chinese type of impoverished exploited worker and could never find enough of them. Now in the event you could not find a job back then you could always go west, steal some land from an Indian and be a farmer. Or you could sell eggs, bacon, clothing or tools to miners at usurious 2005 prices back in the 1850's. Treacherous behavior and exploiting each other has long been an American tradition. We learned how to do it from the Europeans as they were experts. I expect they learned it from the Romans who really had it down pat. As more and more people became descendants of Indian killing, land grabbing, slave owning, war making Europeans and various other foreigners folks began to think of anyone who was not born or inbred here as a foreigner rather than a person who just lived in another country. This naturally lead to lots of paperwork and waiting to get in for the new arrival. We learned how to produce volumes of paper work from the Germans who were extremely anal about detail and how to make it all utterly confusing, redundant and useless from the British. To make matters worse we used French Law in many situations to validate, authorized and execute documentation. So now we have a bureaucracy that is demandingly anal, confused, redundant and elusive, but creates many un needed jobs for under achievers and the less than brilliant. This why we have to put up so bonds for everything as the French would always run off if there was a problem but not as often without their money. Just like the French we figured no one was good for his word even if he signed a contract. . It got out some time ago probably by a respected authority like Rush Limbaugh that people were coming here to steal our jobs and now lots of folks are all worked up about it. What really happened was that large companies started giving jobs to people in other countries because it was more economical. Americans wanted two days pay for one days work so they could have enough to live on after handing over the unions cut, unfair taxes and social insecurity. Even worse Americans workers would be upset if they were impoverished or exploited and might complain if they had to say "would you like fries with that" to often. Some of the jobs like the ones the Chinese guys get today no one wants. Inhumane slavish working conditions are okay for other people if we can get their cheap products but don't ask us to do it. The folks from India and the Middle East have monopolized the convenience store jobs and business. You don't hear any one complain about this situation. Those jobs pay only minimum wage and you have to get robbed and shot by rap singing gang members or drug addicts every now and then while under surveillance by vigilante patriots in camouflage pants who can't tell the difference between a Hindu shop keeper or an Islamic bomber. Many vigilante patriots in camouflage pants are now wandering around the border with Old Mexico trying to stop the Mexicans from coming over to steal our jobs. When the Mexicans steal a job in America where do they take it? They never get caught taking any hot jobs back into Mexico. Most of the Mexicans would love to live in Mexico but the country has been governed vicious corrupt dope dealing monkeys for so long parts of it aren't fit for humans anymore. President Fox is a monkey who's got his hands on lot of bananas we don't know about. We understand this because the other monkeys in control down there haven't killed him yet. We have professional vigilante patriots we call the Border Patrol who are under funded, under manned and completely inept. Many new low paying jobs for foreigners should be opening up guarding the boarders. It is obvious that very little training or aptitude is needed to be a border guard. Arriving Asian and Indian immigrants can fill the spots guarding the Mexican border. The Mexicans who are already here can guard the Canadian border to keep in any Americans who will be headed that way if the Right Wing Republican Fundamentalist Christian Neocons are still running the nation after the next election. Even if the current powers are still in place there will still be many new jobs for people who would like to intimidate, ridicule, and persecute gay people while working for the Department of Values, Ethics and Normalization headed up by Jerry Falwell and Tom DeLay. Religious people of all origins should have no problem coming together to promote bigotry and hatred by bashing gays so there should be work for everyone. No one is stealing jobs that anyone wants at least not inside our boarders. In any event getting paid less is not stealing someone's job its being exploited. Its wide open for anyone wants to be or has no choice. Bruce

Al Franken makes a great deal more money than I do for writing rubbish. I think that he may even take some of what he says seriously. I hear he is going to run for some office. That's all we need is a trash writing left wing comedian pundit in a political office. Ann Coltier will then be forced to run for something to maintain the balance. They both have strong traits of the politician as they both lie a lot and are very good at it. They say the truth will set you free. From what I can tell it just makes everyone mad as hell. So its best to lie at least a little then you will always have a few supporters. If you lie real big and frequently you will have lots of supporters just like Presidents Clinton and Bush. Al and Ann could both excel in an official capacity. Bruce

J Barnstorf - 29 Jun 2005 04:31 GMT It's not quite that black and white. To most people, a paying job is a paying job. There are plenty of Americans working outside of the states. Shall we sneer at them as well? Your country isn't so rotten. It's actually pretty nice. Hardly perfect not even close. However, there are countries where life is out and out deplorable. You'd probably do the same if you were in that foreigners shoes (sandals whatever). But still, there are lots of ugly issues in the states. In most countries for that matter. USA is pretty bad for foreign relations though and quite xenophobic. I lived there for some years, some of the social undercurrents made my hackles rise. Made me confirm my belief that all people are the same.
Not all foreigners want to move to the USA. There are plenty of USA businesses that explicitly go out of their way to get cheap, opressable, exploitable workers. And if that doesn't work, then the USA companies ship the jobs over seas. I simpathize and shake my head at the same time. Big money only cares about big money and in the end the color of your flag don't mean diddly if it doesn't tow the bottom line. Why else would China have most favored nation status even after all the moves it has and is pulling?
Not hardly that black and white at all.
Who's god? My god doesn't have a gender. The inability to maintain the separation of church and state, is only one of many scary issues...
