You may remember my father, Brad Haugen, who used to post to this
newsgroup in the mid to late 90s.  He was an avid railfan and built many
setups for himself and for me. Unfortunately, my dad passed away in
January of 2007.  I would like to ask the members of this newgroup for
some help in doing an estate evaluation of his model railroad
collection.  Please note they are not for sale.  I would just like some
help to put a value to the them for the estate.  If you think you can
help me, please write to me at ahaugen.05@gmail.com .  I have a list of
items in an excel spread sheet that I can forward when I reply to your
letter.

Thank you so much,

Aaron Haugen

The people here will rip you off.  This group is full of thieves.
Your best bet it to hire a pro if the collection is large.
If not put it on ebay starting at $5 each.  The market will fairly
price it.

But stay away from posters here they will tell you the stuff is
worthless when it is not.

will bomb the cities of Vietnam, defoliate the jungles, herd the
population into concentration camps and turn the country into a
wasteland.' But Lyndon Johnson said: 'No! No! No! Don't you dare do
 that. Let ME do it.'"

Did you miss the part where he said "Please note they are not for sale." He just
needs help for estate evaluation.

I do agree with you that he should hire a pro to evaluate the collection. Even
if it is a small one. I did this a few years ago for insurance purpose and was
shocked at how much my collection was worth. In fact I had a second one done
because I thought the first was way to high. The second one came in even higher
by about $500.

CGW (your favorite railroad, perhaps?):

He neither missed it nor caught it.  This is one of the multiple alt-
IDs of a person
who is trying to imitate other posters in order to cause trouble.
Look
up his posting history and this will be more than clear.

Cordially yours:

Don't hire an appraisal for probate, just put down "Electric Train Set"
or "Christmas Train", and like $125.00 or such.  You want this figure as
low as possible if you are closing in on the estate tax threshold(this
is by the way, completely dishonest & most likely highly illegal).

For family valuation purposes you need a pro, & not a dealer.  A 100%
disinterested party.  If the decedent was a TCA member, there are
devices in place in that organization for just such purposes.

I pray your father was saved so he is in heaven now.
Don't let Steve Caple ruin your memories he will try.

Uh-oh - the fanatic is back.  Maybe we could get him together with the Muslim
fanatic who keeps posting intros to Islam :-).

Speaking of fanatics, there was an article in todays paper about a private
"Christian" school where the kids were celebrating Easter by, among other
things, dropping bits of paper into a red liquid to represent the blood o
Christ.

While I might not share their beliefs, my feeling was that it was their
business.  Then I read the next paragraph.  This was in science lab!

Can you imagine how ill-prepared those poor kids are going to be for living
and working in the real world?

And the public schools are producing any better?

Define 'real'?  Who sets those rules you?
