I was not refering to the post about the model gas station. I was
refering to the two pornagraphic posts that were pposted just befor
me.. I thought everyone saw the same screen. Now as far as what you
call shouting is concerned I do have a vision problem and I cannot see
mistakes when I am typoing. when I am out of the google groups I use
CAPS all of the time. There are no absolute rules that say that
capital letters are shouting. how absurd! Anyway I got your attention
didn't I.
i still emphasize that people not respond to those trolls.

If you re-read my post I was trying to ASSIST you in arranging for you not
to use caps which, all over the 'net, indicates shouting, whether you think
it's absurd or not.
That's the convention. Deal with it!
So, re-read my post, follow the instructions, and hopefully you will be able
to read posts without using caps and drawing fire for shouting.
I also have poor eyesight and do not need to resort to caps except, as in
this post, to get the point across.

Well said, sir.
There are settings that can be adjusted to make viewing one's monitor
that doesn't interfere with others on Usenet.

Just so. Thare are also no absolute rules that say you can't stroll
into a biker bar and yell "f.ck HARLEY DAVIDSON!" at the top of your
lungs, but polite people don't do it. Neither do those with an eye
towards the future. (Having one in excess of 30 seconds, that is.)
> how absurd!
Seen from outside their social framework, systems of manners always
are. But they prevent friction anyway, and that's their purpose.
> Anyway I got your attention didn't I.
Attention isn't always good. See "biker bar", above.

Hard for you to understand, I know, but the other folks on Usenet are
perfectly capable of making decisions such as that without your input,
and there are probably some few who were drawn to said pornography (?)
just because you pointed it out in your post. Tsk.

Dr. John is a troll, not likely there was a post ... in this group.

'Sokay. I don't know what "pornography" he was referring to anyway, as
I never bothered to look.
Besides, some of our local blue-noses call the Harry Potter series
"pornographic" since they claim it promotes witchcraft and trashes
Christianity.
I suppose this demonstrates that porn is in the eye of the beholder.

The funny thing about this thread is that I *AM* using Google Groups
for reading and replying to newsgroups and I *DID* see that alleged
"porn" post but it still has no replies to it. NOBODY REPLIED!!!! As
such I don't even understand why this rant was started in the first
place. Someone here is smokin' some funny cigarettes....
Oops, I just added another post to this silly thread...

If you have vision problems, use a larger display font on your monitor. I'm
surprised you don't find caps *harder* to read than conventional text, as
all letters are the same size and harder to differentiate.
Use caps all the time here or elsewhere on the net and you will find
yourself getting ignored pretty quickly as a nutter who simply wants to
shout his own opinion.

Now this is what we here on r.m.r. call a "teaching moment". So if you
don't mind, let me enlighten you a little bit about how this stuff works.
Now we can all see that you're reading and posting to this group through
Google Groups. And like many other folks who use that "service", you
seem to think that this is some kind of ... Google group. But it's not.
What Google has done is to wrap their web-based interface around Usenet
newsgroups. Usenet is far older than the web; it goes back to the days
of acoustic modems, text-only terminals, DARPAnet, and a whole bunch of
other stuff you probably don't know or care about.
Anyhow, most of us actually read this newsgroup through newsreaders
(basically email programs that also read Usenet newsgroups). So no, we
don't all "see the same screen". Each of us has our own ISP (Internet
service provider) which maintains their own Usenet server (actually
NNTP, but let's not get bogged down in details). Each "view" of this
newsgroup is different.
So hopefully that has enlightened you a little bit.
Next time we'll talk about how Google has massively f.cked up their
"portal" to Usenet, and how that has had negative impacts on newsgroups.

As written, here by me there is nothing. Ditch google groups and use
something serious.

So you are shouting at averyone ?
Hold down shift at your keyboard and scroll up on your mouse, then
everything gets bigger and is more easy to read - insteaf of souting and
beeing rude.

You are correct in that there are no *absolute rules* that say
capital letters are shouting.
However, since you use Google to access usenet groups, try also using
Google to search for "nettiquete". You will find that although there
are no rules about caps, it is indeed a *well known* and *well followed*
convention.
You will also find that the convention for emphasis is to use
*asterisks*, as I am doing here.
> how absurd!
Not really. Although there are no "absolute rules" against shouting
your entire oral conversation at someone, doing so would be considered
rude. It's no different online.
> Anyway I got your attention
> didn't I.
Yes, but certainly not in a useful, friendly, or constructive way.
Basically, you've shouted at us that you're a bore and should probably
be ignored.
> i still emphasize that people not respond to those trolls.
Thanks, but we're capable of figuring that out ourselves.
