Alas, poor Scalecoat, I know it well..................

Here is my dilemma.  I have four brass NP cabooses that I am
repainting.  I stripped off the original paint, sandblasted the brass
(followed by a good washing in the ultrasonic cleaner), and I'm ready
to repaint.  I have only used Scalecoat for brass over the last 25
years, and I had outstanding results.  But I have also had great luck
with Polly Scale for plastic.  I like the prospect of water cleanup
and no odor ( I have an outside vented spray booth), and I've been
thinking about taking the plunge and using PS on brass.

I'd love to hear your experiences with it on brass.  My biggest fear
is the paint will lift with the masking.

Comments?

regards,
Jerry

How about Scalecoat II ?   It's like regular Scalecoat but it's plastic
compatible and friendly like Polly Scale.
Just my thoughts. I prefer Scalecoat on brass as I can bake it and decal
over it without a "gloss" coat first.
let us know what you deceide and how the project turns out.             Paul

YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY

I have painted brass with Poly Scale, ModelFlex, Badger AirOpaque and Golden
Airbrush Acrylics.   I have not had pulling problems.  I clean thoroughly
and finish preparation with Polly Scale Plastic Prep, don't touch the
surface and use 3M - 471 tape for masking.

I've seen Mr. Tucker's work, know that he makes his living with various
artistic media, so if he says it, it'll work.  The key with any finish is
to CLEAN THOUROUGHLY.  That doesn't mean 30 seconds dunked in dirty
dishwater.<g>

Thanks for the responses.  Based on the responses, I'll give them one
final cleaning with soapy water and a good rinse, and have at it with
Polly Scale.  I'll post my results.
