Yeah I guess it did.  It's been a hell of a day.
At least I got a 14oz Ribeye at Outback for my trouble!

RED ALERT - VIRUS WARNING

ANYONE RECEIVING A MESSAGE FROM mjerauld@tns.net IN THE
LAST 24 HOURS WITH a .ZIP ATTACHMENT:

DELETE THE MESSAGE WITHOUT OPENING IT!

I received a message from Bob Fortune's address at aeropac
with an attachment entitled: "information.zip                  .src"
and request to respond to the attachment.  Like a DOPE I didn't
notice the extra spaces and opened it after scanning with NORTON
(no virus detected) but it was a pile of code.

Then the SH*T hit the fan.

I couldn't delete the .scr from my desktop.

Had to go work on Penrose St. (NEARLY DONE!)

Later rebooted and was able to delete it.  Norton wouldn't
work, like something was blocking it. Went online to try
LiveUpdate but nothing.  Noticed that during inactive
periods, my PC was downloading SOMETHING.  Ended session.

I did a file search for all files created on Thursday morning
and found 300+ .zip,.exe, & .dll files all with cryptic
lowercase letter titles.  I was able to delete all but one,
so I rebooted into SAFE mode and was able to kill it.

I've scanned and rescanned my machine with no further signs
of the bug.  When the connection is inactive, nothing happens
in the background.

Apologies to any whom have been affected by my stupidity.

That was a close one. Today IS my birthday and I got a few Happy Birthday
messages. I opened them all.  Luckily, none of them were of the one you
speak.

Thanks for the heads up.

Mike, this sounds a lot like the "NETSKY" virus. I got it at work, and had
to load emergency updates to find it. Mcafee has a "Stinger" download on
their site, that is targeted to find, and delete a few of the newer virus,
including this one. You can go here and download the stinger to check.

good luck and hope you "Get Better". Oh and btw happy birthday!
