past year (sorry I can not even recall the launch that was at. it was a
major one but I do not think it was naram I am thinking NSL)

He was at NSL and then certified L3 at NYPOWER X. He is the infamous Robert
DeHate, and he builds Pico Altimeters. Here is a link to his website;
http://www.geocities.com/rdh82000/Picoalt/index.htm

Hope this helps

the pico alt has no performance specifications on their site ( like
accuracy and repeatability and how testing was done , what temp range
is it accuate for ... yes it makes a bit of difference if you fly in
winter and summer ) .. you can do better, a very small one is
advertised in sport rocketry but i can't remember the website here at
work

I think you are thinking of the Altimate.
It was reviewed in SpRocketry too.

At $90 you better get accuracy.
I looked into that sensor too, but dont see the value in the pressure
reading accuracy.

Conversion to altitude from pressure is fraut with errors, so thinking that
having an accurate pressure is going to give you just as accurate an
altitude is wrong.

It's hard to justify even paying $60 for the one I make let alone $90.
And for $90 you dont get logging, or even a replacable battery.
Of course you dont get logging with mine for $60 either, its extra.

I am working on a new model that will cost even less.
But have no logging, just peak altitude.
Oh and the accuracy will be even less than the PICO-LO3.
I am betting people would love a $40 altimeter that is a little less
featured.
Someday it will be available. ;-)  Maybe 2005

And here is a link to a picture of my latest project, an Acceleration based
altimeter.
http://www.geocities.com/rdh82000/Picoalt/images/PICO_AA1.jpg

It only has one output for apogee or staging/airstarts, and acceleration
logging.
Once I get to coding it I will decide on sampling rate/length.
I am shooting for user adjustable from 10Hz to 1kHz

That's infamous in a good way.

Professor Goddard does not know the relation between action and reaction
and the need to have something better than a vacuum against which to
react. He seems to lack the basic knowledge ladled out daily in high
schools. --1921 New York Times editorial about Robert Goddard's

The editor evidently did not actually read Goddard's
original paper, in which he describes in considerable
detail the efforts he made to verify that thrust did
not require air to "push against" (including some
firings in a vacuum chamber).

Freedom of the press also means they have the freedom to be wrong.  And
are quite often, which are quotes I love to post.  If you are BSing the
world, someone on this big rock will ferret you out.  Of course the
Times is *never* wrong.  Hah.  ;<)

Infamous; having a reputation of the worse kind.

Sorry, Sorry,, too many words in head, should check my handy Merriam-Webster
Dictionary first in the future.

I did mean it in a good way, Robert DeHate is of one of the best caliber
people I personally know.

Caliber; Ref #3, degree of mental capacity or moral quality; measure of
excellence or importance.

See, I can look things up.
