Removing broken clip?

I've got an old Syner-Jet reloadable motor that I'm trying to clean up. It uses
C-clips, like a Kosdon motor. The C-clip at one end is rusted, and when I used
the special tool to squeeze it so I could remove it, both ends of the clip
broke off, leaving a little more than half the clip in place. Any suggestions
on how to get this out?

WD-40,   CLR,  then a long nose pliers?

Wouldn't CLR do nasty things the the metal?

Sounds like what's needed is a tiny carbide tip in
a Dremel to make a notch in the middle of the clip
(opposite the gap), cutting away the visible portion
which sticks out of the groove - and then a little
steel pick (I've ground these from small inexpensive
screwdrivers) which will reach into the groove and get
under the end of the clip - if you can spring it a
little bit, you can possibly wiggle it loose a little
at the time (soaking in WD-40 as you go) until you have
half of it unfrozen from the groove: at that point (if
it's so brittle that the ends broke off when you tried
to use starndard snap-ring pliers) it will quite probably
break in two at the notch. At this point you will have two
pieces, each of _less_ than half a circle in size: this may
very well be half the battle right there, since you can now
gradually work each piece loose and remove it without needing
to hold the remnant of the ring compressed against its spring
tension!

OUCH!

Maybe Dremel it into little pieces?
