p.picton - 19 Sep 2004 20:01 GMT Just saw "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and really liked the rocket. Does anyone know where I could find a picture, etc. of the rocket? The movie website doesn't have anything. I would like to make a flying copy. A couple of pictures would go a long way to helping out.
Thanks,
Paul

The good one only has about 6 frames in the trailer, about 3/4 of the way to the end, just after the shot of the air carriers. Not a good shot, either, since it's from above during launch.
The rockets is somewhat like the Cosmostrator, with engines in the fin-top pods. Looks cool, though.

WOT7 is the rocket at issue. Looks quite cylindrical. Just needs silver paint. Ignite some WL grains with no nozzle to get the smoke.

While googling to find the rocket, I found this. Who sits and documents this in movies ?
Sex and Nudity contain in Sky Captain: A man and a woman kiss. A woman leans close to a man's face and seems tempted to kiss him. Two men and a woman wake up in a bed together, and they are nude (we see only their bare shoulders and hear that their clothing was contaminated with radiation). A woman talks about being "naked" while lying in a bed with two men. A man and a woman flirt. A man looks at a woman, admires her and makes an anatomical remark in a language that she cannot understand (we see it in subtitles). A man and a woman talk about having had a romantic relationship, in several scenes. There are several references to a man having been unfaithful to a woman. We see the bare buttocks of a male statue, and we see a statue of a man bare-chested with a cloth loosely draped around his hips. A woman tears open her skirt seam (so that she can run) revealing her stocking top and part of her bare thigh.

That site is such a laugh, and of course for teenagers, the perfect way of finding out exactly what's in the film they want to watch!

I'm sure a caption referring to Rockets could be generated.
Back on topic, I like the three fin rocket, it reminds me, in a way, of other retro rockets like Tin tin's red & white checkered V2, and the ship used in 'When Worlds Collide'.
But i also like the (are they missiles?) in the other Sky Captain screen-grabs; they have a seemingly integrated stabilizing surface aft of the main body.
It would be interesting to see if the openings in an other wise aft extended tube would provide stable flight. I think that low speeds would be problematic but at medium to high speeds it might work due to the effects of pressure differences and higher flow generated due to propellant exhaust down the middle.

Cliff Sojourner - 20 Sep 2004 05:28 GMT so was the movie any good or not? suitable for kids in high single digits? suitable for adults in high double digits?
> Just saw "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and really liked the > rocket. Does anyone know where I could find a picture, etc. of the rocket? [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > > Paul Paul P - 20 Sep 2004 13:06 GMT I enjoyed the movie. It has a very different look. It is very dark and fuzzy - like a 40's movie. There was very little violence. A couple of fight scenes and of course, we have all read about the nudity and sex in the movie above. The movie should be suitable for older kids and adults. It is definitely an interesting film. As a sci-fi, rocket guy, it is definitely high on the cool scale. The rocket I was talking about is an arc, as in Noah's ark. It would make a great fantasy scale model. Very much in the vein of 1930's rockets.

The rocket isn't complicated and should be easy to create with existing rocket parts. I expect we'll be seeing a lot of Dr. Totenkopf's rocket at launches. But maybe we should let people enjoy the movie first?
Zathras of the Great Machine - 29 Sep 2004 04:57 GMT I saw the movie over the weekend, a real yawner for me personally. But, yes, the rockets were cool. Maybe the best part of the whole film. In the case of the smaller ones I must admit it's a very elegant design. They almost look like they could be hybrids (as the brain starts pondering, sigh). The big one? Make a great retro design for X-prize ;-)

>Just saw "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" and really liked the rocket. RayDunakin - 29 Sep 2004 07:08 GMT I've seen Sky Captain twice so far. I think the movie's a lot of fun. Love the rockets too. The big one at the end is shown pretty clearly, and looks really cool. There are some smaller missiles that I wish we could get a good clear look at, but are only seen briefly whizzing by after being launched from underwater.
