Please don't reply to posts for make money fast, or other obvious trools in
ANY newsgroup. Many of them get filtered out or canceled when reported back
to their ISPs. We'd never even see them if folks didn't waste more bandwidth
replying to them, rebroadcasting their garbage again and again.

Please don't reply to this guy, he's obviously just an attention-seeking troll
trying to bring others over to his peculiar way of thinking.    ;-P

Please do not reply to this this guy, he's obviously just an
attention-seeking troll trying to disuade troll-bait from not fulfilling
their natural function.  Will it ever end?  :-)

Sometimes I really feel like replying snarkily to some of the broadcast
spam garbage, and have sparingly done so in past.  I've always regretted
having done, feeling that spammers are accumulating targets based on
response frequency.

You are correct.  A number of trollers are simply out to get responses,
and they accumulate a score for each response.  The score doesn't mean
much except to other trolls.

One way of telling this behavior is to look for crossposts.  The trolls
will crosspost to several groups, one of which is their scoring group.
Every response is a point or something.

So if you can't help but respond to an obviously moronic troll, at
least break the chain and cancel the crossposts.

The score means a LOT to other trolls.  It means that there are enough
gullible idiots on the newsgroup that it is worth posting more spam.
